What Year Did Engine Parts Switch to Gray From White Color?

Thanks guys. Little things like that can be helpful at the "flea market" and when you've got a multicolor engine that you're wondering about.

I'm curious, what is the significance in the engine color?

 

[Ed Clark]

Nothing really. It's just sort of a date code on parts. For example, I bought a 717 engine that was mostly white, but had one gray cylinder and the cylinder head and cylinder head cover were gray also. So, very obviously that engine had experienced a problem

I paint mine the same color so that doesn't happen. LOL
