I looked through my owners manual but I cant seem to find out what purpose this hose has?

Anyone?

It was off on my jetski and I did re-attach it. After that was done I had a hard time starting it. These two things related?

I'm thinking on your model seadoo the fuel air filter is a one way valve...I don't remember a hose going to it. Where is the other end of the hose going to?

I don't have that model ski, but isn't that hooked to the air vent on top of the oil tank?

Mine has that little filter looking thing then just open to the air. It is a one-way valve that allows air to escape the tank, if I am not mistaken.

Of course, mine is older, not stock, and who knows if there was ever a hose attached to it.

Hey guys,

I noticed the same thing when I was in working on the fuel lines last weekend. They're check valves which are suppose to allow the oil and fuel vapours (respective of their tank) to escape. I have two lines that run up to the top of the cowling and the other two lines run into the front vent compartment. Discovered this when I could smell gas from the front vent...yah I was worried at first, but all's good. I'm guessing that BRP used the one way valves to ensure that water didn't enter the system while playing. Given your machine (like mine) is 20 yrs old, they may be jammed. I don't know about replacement ones or if any general one-way valve would work as a replacement. In Canada we're limited w/ our parts dealers.

As for the starting issue, you may want to loosen the hose clamp on the rubber pick up unit on top of your tank and lift up the assembly and check the vinyl lines that run into your tank. There are two lines - one for "ON" and one for "RESERVE". There are four connections, 2 for feed lines, one for vent and one for return from the carb. Incidentally, the "RESERVE" line is longer. Actually...anyone know the proper lengths for these two pick-up lines? Reason being I was out this weekend and after about 20 min's was having engine surges. Some tinkering later I discovered that the pick-up lines were both gone. They had deteriorated so badly they just fell apart. Yup - that's my next project, clean out the tank and try and find them. I'm hoping the small filters on the ends are still in there somewhere. You may want to check these two pick-up lines to make sure they aren't cracked and sucking air.

Cheers!

Your talking about the gas tank, not the area I have circled correct? I should pop that off and check the lines that are actually in the tank to make sure they are ok, right???????? My ski runs fine once it gets started, could this still be the issue?

How about any filters I could/should be changing?

Sorry for the long post, but yes, pop off black rubber unit on the gas tank. It's held on by a metal gear clamp. 1/4" socket does the trick. That's where the fuel feed lines are and they run into the fuel selector switch which then runs to the carb. There is a plastic inner pipe which I think acts like a baffle for the fuel lines. It doesn't have to come out. Anyways, the fuel lines are in there. Mine were orange and cracked and fell apart as soon as I touched them.

Just thought I'd mention giving them a check because I never thought to before I took mine to the cottage. If I did, that would've been one less trip to the store during peek riding time.

*filter question response* I changed my fuel filter, though apparently they can also just be cleaned. Haven't changed the inline oil filter, but it might be a good idea too.

Cheers!

Doug,

Would you mind swapping email addresses with me? I believe we can both hopefully learn alot from each other as we have the same year ski (odd as you dont see to many of the 89's around here anymore)

Im going to send you a PM with my email address, if you wouldn't mind can you please send me yours? I have a photo I would like you to see to see if its the same setup on your 89.

THANK YOU
Anthony

Here is what I found when I popped off the plastic rubber topper piece.

IMG390 has a picture of where the right angled piece broke off when I pulled the top rubber cover off.

IMG391 shows where possibly maybe a hose is missing????? Not sure if this is accurate or not.

Thoughts anyone? Think either of these two could be tied to my starting issue?

Hey Anthony,

For sure - got your PM and info. It's great with forum's like this that we can get support from pro's and enthusiasts alike!

As for the picts...I don't see them there. Now, I'm only about 1/2 way thru my first coffee but did they get attached?

Cheers!
