My 2016 Ram 6.4 Hemi started running horribly back in November, I pretty much made a vow 3 years ago to never go to a mechanic again so once my slow season came in December I started in at this. My original thought after looking around online was can and lifters. Once I got onto a Ram forum a fellow recommended checking the coils/springs/resistors for corrosion. Ordered new boots, longer springs and did away with the resistors, I was very optimistic that my problem would be fixed with the amount of corrosion but unfortunately it didn’t. Found a broken exhaust valve spring for cylinder 3 so pretty sure that was the issue but after reading the loads and loads of cases where the needles in the lifter goes bad, creates a flat spot on the lifter and then destroys the cam I’ve decided to take both heads of and change all the lifters and inspect the cam with a borescope. Its been a challenge for me, with not knowing these engines and what exactly to be looking for, but with the help of a good fellow on the Ram forum I’m slowly making my way through it. Wish me luck, I’m probably going to need it.
