The X4 Thread

Okay that's what I was wondering. I live for jumping and like a lot of guys in here I've been ocean riding X4's since their inception. If you get a scoop don't get anything more aggressive than a standard WORX or Jet Dynamics #7. Personally I've used the WORX for years and it's given me the best results for getting air. On that note another great mod that I've found ideal for wave/wake jumping is hydraulic trim coupled to a pump wedge. Gives you absolute control over what that nose is doing prior to leaving the lip.

This is just my personal preference. There are a ton of great opinions and ideas for these skis on here.

Happy modding!

if anyone has a lead on an intake grate or single gauge hood let me know!
If you are planning on painting it just watch ebay for an SP/SPI/SPX hood from that hull. I just got a clean 94 sp green single gauge hood for around $55 shipped. I believe the only year that was yellow was the 95 xp800, so those are more rare and expensive.

yeah i plan on painting it gloss black. I'm bidding on one on eBay right now but its a bit higher. hoping someone out bids me lol

I just scooped another one off there for $60 shipped, just gotta watch it cause they pop up every now and again for a good price. I personally wouldn't pay over $100.

Ya the 95xp800 was the only ski to have the yellow single gauge hood and I definitely would not paint that one, someone on here might come and find you...LOL
There are plenty of the SP/SPI/SPX ones to paint over instead.

There is a single gauge 95 SPX hood on there now for 60 plus 12 shipping, so I think it the SPX was the same also.

Those things sell for a hundred plus all the time. Your not "stuck" for 80 if you end up with it.

I saw a moderator get a good deal on a yellow one recently :patriot:

Really??????????????????

And his 7yo daughter helped him detail it up 2 hours ago.

And here it is. I got it today at around 9AM just before I went to the work. Had my daughter give me a hand, she likes to help make the skis like new. Only thing left to do is touch up a few spots and then Wipe New, put a hinge on and get a gasket for it. This was the hardest one to clean yet. I usually just use soft scrub and a scotch brite, that was barely touching it. I hit it with the Harbor Freight DA buffer (Porter Cable knock off) and some 3m heavy cut compound. Then I washed it with the soft scrub. Probably tomorrow I'll hit it with the Wipe New and make it "Like New". Gonna look good on the 98 SPX!

Any recommendations on where I could get a pair of yellow handlebar pads for a '95 XP? The ones I have are gummy and the screws aren't holding them in place anymore. (splitting the seam by nearly a half inch now)

What would a decent price be for something like that? I've seen some new replacements go for like $180 so.. I'm hoping not quite like that.

It all depends. Unfortunately, it's a desirable bar pad, 4 years only 95, 96, 97, and 98. They all suffer from the mold issue. I know suke has a few he bought for his resto that are pretty clean, but I'm sure you're not getting one for $50 I think they're pretty clean. I have a few but I'm a hoarder. I probably have like 4 or 5 of them that all need to be cleaned, but I'll just give them to the guy that renews them and have them all mint for a project ski.

You could also swap to teh later style that is hard plastic. Jetskigoodies did it, and so have I and I'm sure others. But you need to make a bracket to mount it. It's on the forum here somewhere. JSG and I have the same concept on mounting them ( I used his idea but tried to simplify it) to the skis.

I'll definitely sell what I have. I paid a crap ton for the ones I have( over $100). I don't think they're in the condition to warrant $100. Let me pull them out and see what I have. I bought pretty much every one of them that looked decent off ebay for a few months until I stumbled on a gem on PWC that I pretty much stole from him. It's boxed up so I'll pull it out and see what I've got.

Awesome! Thanks suke. Mine are gummy and falling apart, so regardless they will need to be replaced down the road.

i have done a couple of them, I did not see it done before I did mine and was not sure it would even work. I tried it and I am glad I did.

^This is true. Guess i should give you props as well! Wouldn't have known about that mod or being able to use the RXP grips either if it weren't for you.

I cleaned almost 98%. It looked like new. But I found that it is very easy to get dirty again. A fabric cover probably will look good and easier to keep it clean.
