Have a weird one here. So the last time i took out my ski to the river she ran awesome like usual. Starts easy, idles fine, no hesititation, 58 mph. The last time at the river i ran her most of the day and when my fuel guage was just below half a tank she just randomly dies during WOT. She then would start right back up but would only pull about 6200 RPM instead of the normal 6750. As i would keep riding it would slowly get worse to where it would maybe hit 5500 RPM then die. Then start back up again and run for maybe 100 yards then die, and STAY dead. after getting hauled in that day on the river I had a few beers and hung around then pressed the start button only for her to gargle and spray quite a bit of water out the exhaust. Once i got her home and on the charger she would crank up fine ?
So this past weekend i took it to the lake for the first time and she did the same exact thing!! Ran good the whole day until i got below half a tank then would die to a stop, then restart and run and steadily drop RPM then just die again and not restart. Once i got her home from the lake i hooked up the charger again and she sprayed the same amount of water out the exhaust(quite a bit) then finally started and now starts fine like always? What is the deal?? im lost?
Carbs were cleaned at beginning of summer. Fuel lines also changed. Plugs look fine!(maybe a hair lean on MAG side but i adjusted an 1/8 of turn on high and it seemed to help last time. Whats the deal? any help appreciated

if the battery is not charging while riding and going dead, seems the first thing to check is the voltage regulator.

Crack your fuel cap next time it happens to make sure your tank is venting.

The battery does charge I beleive ? It's not that it is dead when Im riding , it's that once the ski dies , eventually the battery does too from trying to start it .

Never pulled the fuel selector valve now that I think of it . Think running direct line might solve the issue ?

That is where I was going next. You can go from the RES fitting on the baffle to the filter/water separator. If you have a pop off tester then cap off your return line at the rear carb and try to pressurize from the 1/4" line that you would put on the RES fitting. Pump it up and it will check your whole system. It should hold 30psi. Otherwise it will reveal your problem.

Be careful if the lines are full of fuel then it will try to back up in your tester's gauge if the system holds.

Hey Matt would you recommend just scrapping the stock filter / separator and put an inline ?

No don't scrap it. Put the fram in line filter that Lou recommends between the stock and the carbs because it has better filtration. The OEM collects water and catches the chunks.

Make sure the O-ring is good on the oem

If it always runs bad after you get below 1/2 tank of gas you may have a crack in the baffle.....follow the suggestion & run it on reserve and see if that helps.

Not the baffle because it starts when i get home or later on without adding any fuel . As it sits i have it running direct from RES fitting to carbs without filter but this is only temporary. ill hook it up to the stock filter .Now waiting on Lou to come in here and give me a filter name lol

Are the rest of the ports on your baffle plugged? The fuel system needs to be sealed off. Could it be a small exhaust leak choking the motor out?

Interesting......mine did something similar last time I had it out, but it was just when it got below half a tank. Off to figure out symptoms of fuel baffle issues.

Don't the tanks get pressurized somehow? Maybe when you're below half a tank it needs to have more pressure to stay pressurized enough to get fuel.
Just a thought.
