You might score some used RAVE assemblies complete. I'm not sure why so many are experiencing issues with heat damage but the seals must keep exhaust from entering. Seems to be the 787 has the heat problems but not all of them do.
At rest, the valve blade must be all the way down into the slot to close off the exhaust port else I bet it won't run well at low speed, might be hard to start too. Spring tension is important for timing when the valve is actuated upward by the bellows.
Some aftermarket bellows aren't shaped correctly and tend to keep the rave from moving down into the slot despite having the correct springs.
