I have a 1999 Speedster SK and when I bought it the speedometer cable is missing a chunk between the pickup and the fitting where the cable goes into the pump housing towards the front of the boat. There is probably 6" missing....What kind of cable do I use to fix this. Can I just patch the middle? or do I have to replace the whole thing? Anyone got any tips

The OEM speedo was not accurate, just a guide that the boat is moving in case you have a sore neck and cannot look down over the edge, a GPS is the best fix, I use a Garmin 76 and now the color model gets longer battery life with more memory space - there are very fancy ones but the 76 floats if it falls.

I would replace the whole sensor. Thats what I did. The previous owner got a tow rope stuck in the impeller and it got wrapped around the speedo wires there on the outside and they got ripped loose. I found a member here who sold me the sensor from a jet ski. You can find them on here sometimes or ebay. Then you need a special tool to remove the wires from the plug. I found it on ebay for 10 bucks. I have since learned Sea Doo uses GM type plugs and they can be found at places like auto zone.

Or you can try and solder wires into the missing part and shrink wrap them good. If it doesnt work, you arent out much.

Do I have to Soder

Do I have to soder them together or can I just use standard inline crimp electrical connectors to patch them???

Well, it is down under the boat constantly under water. I dont think I would just crimp it. It needs to be water tight. Plus those connectors are going to be too big. By the time you fix 2 wires, that would be kinda messy to have hanging under there.

I took it off, but after I stripped the wires there was only 2 Wires, Is that correct? I thought It was supposed to have 3 ?

some had 2, others had 3. The last wire was for, i beleive the lake temp sensor.
