I have a 97 GTX and when I got it the speedo was working at low speeds but erratic at high speeds. I figured it make have been due to engine noise or interferance. Now it doesn't register at all. All the connections appear to be fine. I get about 9v on the purple and yellow wire, about 5v on the middle wire and ground on the 3rd wire. The Lake Temp registers when the speed sensor is plugged in and does not register if disconnected. So it seems as if the wiring is fine. Is it possible that it just fails to send a signal for speed at this point? Everything else on my ski seems to work except the compass seems backwards!

take a look at the rear of your ski, on the left side of the impellar. you should see a "wheel" like piece that will spin forward or backward with your finger. that is your speedo sensor. the faster it turns, the higher your speedometer reads. then hit your start button without the key in it, it should turn things on that are on your dash, I.E. gas gauge,etc... once you tap the start button, have someone use their finger and turn that wheel really fast, see if your speedo registers. if it does, your probably having an issue with that wheel locking up while your riding, mine did that. if it still does not register, probably electrical then. good luck

I had the same issue happen to an older ski, checked the back wheel and it had a ton of fishen line wrapped up in it so that it would not turn at all.

From my findings, on the connector going to the speedo sensor, I get about 9v on the outer wire, 5v on the center wire, and ground on the last outer wire. I tried checking the sensor for continuity and get high range readings in either kilo ohms or mega ohms and absolutely no change in readings when flipping the wheel! I have sender from a 1994 seadoo and tested it with a 7.2v battery pack applied to the outer 2 wires and get an on/off signal when flipping the wheel. Tried the same test with the 1997 sender from my ski and get nothing! I think it's shot. I don't think I can use the 1994 because the 1994 didn't have a temp gauge. Does anybody know if they changed the design over the years?

from what I understand you can use either sensor in either ski, but with that comes the problem if one has the temp sensor and the other does not and you install the speed sensor in your ski from the older one then the speed should work but you will loose your temp sensor
