Spark Plug Gaps.

The manual for my '05 GTI with the 717 motor says to gap the spark plugs at .018". That is one small gap! What is the result of going with a larger gap than the manual suggests, like .020 to .024" out of the box? I have ran my Seadoo about 20 hours this year on the plugs, and it isn't starting as quickly as it did when the plugs were new. I just replaced the plugs and adjusted the gap to .018" again. So I'll see how it starts the next time out.

It will just put more of a strain on the coil, possible misfiring, maybe fould plugs. BRP never did make very good coils IMO. Too low voltage, not enough spark power.

I tested the coil on my car tonight and its over 40 000 volts, jumping like a 2 inch gap with a spark tester. I wish my Seadoo and Skidoo had that much spark power.
