solenoid jump 96 gsx

when i touch the two heads should it crank over... if nothing...does that mean the solenoid is shot ????

I believe that timmyboy made a mistake answer the question and I allso believe that he knows the right answer is that when you jump across the 2 big post on the soliniod that if it does not start that it is eather bad wires or conections from the battery to the solnoid and starter. Or the first place I would check is to make sure that the battery is good with out a shadow of a doubt ps Timmy only answered the first part of the question yes you are correct it should spinn over and no it does not mean that your solinoid is bad if it dose not spinn over

make sure you use a good insulated pliers. You don't want your hands to touch the metal when doing so.

I just used one screwdriver on my solinoid last saturday. The contacts in the solinoid were bad as it had a good clicking noise. I drilled out the 4 rivets and took it apart I sanded down the contacts and resoldered back the wires that I had to remove to take it apart. I replaced the rivets with machine screws that I had laying around. You need to know how to solder have a piece of sand paper and a drill and this problem should be fixed untill the electro magnet fails. If your solinoid is more than 15 years old It would not be worth this repair. some people would say that 10 years is even to long and I would agree with them. But I am cheap after spending $2000 on my boat this year. This is probly not your problem but I wanted share info with others that may have this problem. Good luck Robin
