ski start procedure

so ive been have issues starting my ski and just watched a vid on utube he didn't touch the throttle and just kept winding till it was running. he had a choke and I dont

so what steps do you take when starting your ski?
 
Lanyard to life jacket
DESS key on lanyard to DESS post
Turn fuel to ON
Pull choke right hand
Press start button left hand and crank till it fires off then I don't touch throttle on that days initial cold start until I have idled out of no wake zone


Does yours have primer instead of choke?

pretty much this, except i always start on the trailer before dropping into the water to make sure that when i'm drifting away from the trailer into the path of everyone else trying to get to/from the ramp i'm not going to be the guy that can't get his junk started.

I do as well, (I give it a quick start in the driveway or at the gas station)
However, Sunday I had a guy mention to me that he think's just starting it for a few seconds is the best way to foul up plugs since they don't get time to heat up when you do that, now I haven't had a plug fouling issue, but it actually made sense and I filed it away for future reference. any thoughts ?

back OT to the OP, on my rides there was generally no need to hit the throttle, but i would brap it once or twice once it was idling for a few seconds.
 
I end conversations with people that tell me things like that real quick haha.

If ski is properly tuned and running great it doesn't hurt to crank it up for a second. Trust me it takes a while to foul a plug. With all the flooding and overrich conditions i had last summer before getting my carbs dialed in. I put those NGKs to the test.

Before I leave the house I always double check straps, and crank engine over to make sure battery has enough ummpff to get it running and connections are kosher.

Then after I get gas I check the straps, tires, hitch ball, and lights one more time.

I run it long enough to clear out the plugs and get a little heat in them. usually its full choke till it kicks over, hold choke till it starts stumbling, then to half choke till it starts stumbling again, let go of the choke, wait till it clears out and idles up to 3k give it a couple blips to make sure its clear and kill it.
 
To the OP, you mentioned that you do not have a choke?
If you do not I would install a primer. They are about $25 and one or two pumps and the ski should start instantly. Without a primer or choke you can crank a cold engine long enough to drain the battery before it starts.
 
I have a primer tho it seems easy to get carried away with it

for some reason I want to open the throttle all the time and I need to stop cause I keep flooding it
 
The primer should only take one or two at the most pumps from the primer and throttle closed. Should fire instantly as long as the fuel and electrical systems are working properly.
