Sea-Doo Spark Review - X4 Enthusiasts Rejoice! The Spark is here!

Tony,

Don't even think about parting out your XP, I'm sure many members of this forum, myself included would be willing to give more than market price for your ski. Plus you wouldn't have the hassle of selling and shipping the parts.

Lou

Officially, Doc is right that he would not get what it is worth selling as a whole unit.

However, here at the site we know Doc and his knowledge. Thus,,, making his ski worth more than the normal amount...

Not going to argue, just know what the lead engineers and designers told me in direct conversations. Looks like that website misreported.

When I first saw the reports, power to weight ratio I was thinking the Spark compared to a 95XP, but from what I've seen and heard, it appears to be more stable than the 95XP, probably based on a lower center of gravity. This gets me to thinking, hmm, maybe the ride is more like a cross between a GSX and an XP. I guess I won't really know until I ride one.

Any chance SeaDoo will be taking these on a demo tour next summer, maybe to Lake Cumberland?

I asked my local dealer today if they could get me on to one in Orlando, I'll be there on Saturday for a week. I think my wife might bug out if I asked to slip away, but I showed my son the videos tonight and he is in love with it. I'll keep that card close to my sleeve.

I honestly feel like Reverse is not necessary on these skis. I'm so used to handling the XP that I don't even think about it. It is nice to have I guess, but I get so pissed when I let people borrow my GTS (with a reverse) and they never know or remember how to use it

Anyway, I'm sooo glad Seadoo is bringing back the spirit of the jet ski. Maybe the rest of the industry will catch on. I bet in no time they'll have souped up versions pushing 55mph+

I know Joe said it was based off the X4 hull.... but honestly... it's bigger than the GSi/GSx. The XP was 100", and the GS was 105" long. The Spark is 110".

The Width on the XP was 41" and the GS was 45". The Spark is 46".

Based on that... they REALLY strayed away from the X4 hull. So to put that label on it, is almost silly. But regardless.... I think they tried to blend the "Spirit" of the X4, and give it the stability that the market now wants. And that's why I'm thinking about swapping the XP for one. I can let anyone ride it, and it may actualy hold 2 people. Let's face it... the 96 xp (X4) hull was almost imposible to put 2 adults on. Even my light weight nephew and his GF had a hard time going slow on it.

Id have to ride one before I committed. Need to make sure it isnt a horribly rough ride.

Compared to your 1000 Lb GTi... it's going to buck you around. This kind of ski wan't meant for a "Destination" kind of ride, in the open waters. It was meant to splash around on, in a small lake. (this is the same reason my XP hardly ever see's time in the local rivers)

I honestly feel like Reverse is not necessary on these skis. ................

I have mixed feelings on that....

You are right, in the fact that a water go-kart doesn't need reverse. We lived without reverse in most of the smaller, and base models for the first 15 years of PWC. But... its nice that they are offering it as a "Bolt-on" option for the guys who are going to ride around docks, and other boats, in close areas.

The iBR is a little overkill to me... but if I do get a Spark... I will add the manual reverse.

Given those dimensions, I bet it would be more stable with two, and also not porpoise like the XPs did all the time. Mine can't go straight at full speed for more than a minute before it starts to slam itself on the water. I constantly have to keep turning to keep it from doing that. I need to get those trim relays fixed, I forgot whether I could trim that out or not... but I know that it's stuck in a mostly downward position.

Trim on normal XP's don't do much. On the 95's with the extended pump you get more affect.

That's why mine has 6" long tabs on the back, and angled about 3 degrees down. Runs nice and flat, with the trim centered.

I saw a pic of the underside of the hull, the strakes and pump inlet are what look to be exact from the X4 to the "t". The grate is a two bar, but has one screw in the front instead of the 2 like the X4's, the ride plate is iirc a two piece which I assume allows you to change the wear ring easier since the pump doesn't look like it houses the wear ring?? I'm trying to find that pic but it was an awesome shot. So to say it's exactly the X4, no, but a variation. The length was also added to the top of the hull so even though it's longer, it's not longer in the waterline from what I've read.

All correct. I can't vouch for the two piece ride plate, but it is setup for a very fast wear ring change because as you said, it's not inside the pump.

don't discount the IBR option !
If you haven't been on a ski with that option, you have no idea how wonderful it is !
Its spectacular ! (Really ! I'm not kidding)

Really? I can totally feel the difference--and I don't even have a gauge to tell me where it's at.

On a side note, I can already see the trim castings and provisions on the Spark for it on the GH pics

all the musclecraft riders on GH are discounting this model, lots of negative's but honestly I think they're missing the boat. No offense to the 300hp boats, they handle offshore riding quite well, but for zipping around a lake or doing mangrove runs, this thing looks absolutely perfect. After looking at the dimensions, this actually looks much more stable than my old xp, seems like it will handle chop as well as the GSX did, which is more than acceptable for me.

sure I notice it, but it's not life changing by any means. To me it's marginal.
