rotary valve shaft work?

today i took my challenger out to run the motors on the hose for a few minutes before the maiden voyage this year. i had quite the mess pumping out the oil from the cylinders! i soaked 5 large rags placed over sparkplug holes. i know it is oil seeping in the engine from bad seals on the rotary valve shaft. has anyone in here fixed this problem on there own? i have seen previous posts stating that this is a common rotax problem. do i have to pull the engine to repair this? i think it is worse this season than last season. if i have to pump out oil after the boat sits for more than a week i don't think i can deal with this all summer!

Most of the time, it's not the RV seals. The problem is the seals on the center of the crankshaft. The problem there is... the crank is pressed together, so it requires a full disassembly of the engine, and a crankshaft exchange to fix the problem. (expensive) And... if the engine is old... you may as well do a full rebuild at that point.

A few years ago, I had a ski that did the same thing. The engine ran great, but it will put enough oil in the cyl's to keep it from cranking if it sat for more than a week. The solution was to put hose pinchers on the 2 RV hoses, and to start it for about 30 seconds at least once a week. But once the hoses were pinched... very little oil would go into the engine.

Also... since those hoses aren't your injection hoses... even if you forget to take them off before a ride... you won't hurt the engine, since there is enough oil in the RV cavity to keep the gears happy.

thanx for the great news! lol! for now i think i will try the hose pincher trick. cannot afford the full rebuilds and i would want to do a full rebuild as it is a 1999. i have twin 787's, if i do a total rebuild on one and not the other what kind of issues would i run into?

oh btw, thanx for the hose pincher attachment Dr. Honda, but i already have a set as i need them for my anti-freezing and to hook up the boat to garden hose.
