Re-mounting in deep water

I'd kind of like one of those re-loading bars for the back of my 1998 GS. You know, the spring loaded kind, that you step on. But 180 buks just seems a bit pricey for a piece of pipe, with mounts on the ends.

Is there a better, or less 'spensive option?

Last weekend I saw a guy had mounted a full 3 step later on the back of his. (this was a large man). It was mounted on the top side of the lip instead of the the under side. When he put it way he raised it up and the 3 steps were retractabled and he bungie corded it to the hook thing on the back (below the rear grab handle). This was a 99 GSXL.

It honestly looked like a a step ladder off a boat, most likely was. It looked hill billy as hell but I would have a hard time seeing that guy get on any other way.

But you asked for cheaper.
