So this is the Challenger 1800 that I am working on. The pic thread in the PWC forum inspired me to get some pics. I don't know what I am going to do with it when I am finished yet since I don't really want to keep it on a trailer and keeping it in salt water probably will destroy it.

I am waiting for the new exhaust gaskets and am planning to do new vinyl and see if I can get the old cover fixed or get a new one. It needs a good detailing but I think it will be great when I'm done.

She'll come up great, I'll try find some picks of mine when I first bought it.

Those are great boats... and easy to work on. (if you like being on your head. LOL) The red/gray vinyl always is wrecked like that. I don't think it's very UV stable. But I've brought 2 seadoo boats back to life.

Good luck, and keep posting as you rebuild.

Rich,
I have the same boat. That will be a fun boat when you finish. Looks like the seat foam is toast. Keep up posted on the progress and if I can help just let me know.

Dannyjd- I have a JS550 that I've had apart for quite some time now. If I ever get some time I want to get that back together

Dr- the working upside-down does get old after a while. Hopefully after I get the pipes back on I am done with engine work.

JH- some of the foam will need to get replaced in part.
I have orange tractors

but the green ones are good too

Alright! Another tractor person. Orange is good. My neighbor runs Kubota. They are nice tractors.
I have chain hooks welded on my bucket. Works great for pulling/installing jet ski/boat engines.

You probably already know this, but I usually remove the rear cover by pulling the hinge pins to do engine work on my boat. Make life easier for old fat guys like me. :)

I made an arm that goes in place of the backhoe bucket to lift engines out of this while at my dock

How do you remove the pins? I been working on my boat for a while and got tired of working sitting on top of the motor plus got tired of breaking things in there by stepping on them. So i took the back off and i tried getting the pins out,all i got was a sore thumb and a damaged old screwdriver that now is a ice pick lol
I tried to get those pins out but they would not budge no matter how much WD40 i put in there.

I have not personally removed the pins to get to then engines but my gaskets just came today and I might look at pulling pins if it is easy. If I do pull the pins I will be unbolting the seats while I am in there.

Hope you have better luck than i did because i could not get those pins to move a MM either one. So i just unbolted them from the bottom easier to put back i think that way.

The first couple of times they were a bit of a pain, but now they are relatively easy.
I squirted a shot of WD40 and used a set of needle nose vise grips on the flat side of the pin and a pin punch on the other end. After the second or third time they started coming out better.

If you unbolt the hinge it is probably just as easy.

Well I'm more jealous of the equipment, but now I'm not sure. LOL

Finally got to get it in the water. Picked up a set of used seats after I stripped off all my old covers (except the two captains chairs). Ran good but I think I an going to have to clean out at minimum the carb filters on one engine. When first goes in I can get both engines to rev to 7000 but after a bit one will start to surge so I am thinking the filters could use a cleaning (does not have grey fuel lines). Ordered carb kits so will find out when they get here.
Still have to get a good wax and do something with the faded/dirty grab rails but so far so good.

Great looking job Rich. Which model boat did those seats come out of? Love the gray color.

They were from an '02 Mercury powered 1800. Were not perfect but much better shape than mine were in.
