Premix Setup - New to me GTI

Hey everyone,

I have a couple of questions. I feel pretty confident in my understanding but want to be clear before I put too much time in the water with this ski.

I recently purchased a 2002 GTI. Very clean in and out. Recent wear ring, new fuel lines and filter. Took it out yesterday and it seemed to run fine.

Previous owner removed the oil tank and capped the lines to the carb from what he stated. He looped the lines at the crank case from one port to the next.

My understanding is this is the non ideal way to convert to premix as you may not know if the oil level gets low in the oil pump housing and if so, the engine is gone.

He used clear line and said I can visually verify the oil is circulating. Is this ACCEPTABLE assuming there is no loss of oil? Can I “top off” the case via those lines and just keep an eye on the level via watching it circulate?

How hard would it be to install a new oil tank and re-route the lines to circulate from the engine to tank? Since I’m not joining them to the carb, I assume I would plug those outlets and just run two to the engine.

Super excited.. first ski, first two stroke anything. I am into cars (Mustangs and Jeeps) and I’m happy to be expanding my horizons to the SeaDoo world. Forum looks like an awesome knowledge base!
