i have a 2004 RXP with some of the Riva Stage 2 mods bolted on. I was jumping wakes a bit ago having a blast til i landed one. I lost complete thrust when i press the throttle and there was a vibration underneath. The engine sounded fine and i could hear the supercharger also.
I had idle speed but once i started to give it gas it vibrated. I got to shore to make sure nothing was cavitating it. Put it back in the water and seemed fine again. After about 400yrds it began to porpoise really badly so i stopped to calm her down. Thats when i noticed i was sinking QUICK.
I ended up blowing the carbon seal. i've had that replaced but still have the vibration underneath.
One person suggested the driveshaft was bent. Isnt that a solid piece of steel. Is it common in jumping wakes that the drive shaft bends like that? If so, what is the test to see how bent it is?

well

it's much more likely you sucked something up than bent a drive shaft.

I've wrapped ski ropes around them, pulled them out, and not bent them.

Yeah, i've sucked up ski ropes in the past and had to give a kid the knife to cut the rope out through the intake grate. There wasnt anything underneath and the impeller look fine.
After the carbon seal was replaced I put it in the water. Idle was fine but as soon as i gave it gas the rear end would shudder really bad. I didnt get it over 4000rpms cause if the shaft was bent i didnt want to blow another carbon seal.

Has anyone tried straightening out a slightly bent driveshaft. I sucked up a tow rope in my GTX and it got bent, pulled it out and saw where it was bowed. I straightened it out and now it is very true, I checked it on the v block with a dial indicatior and the out of round is 0.025 in, which is pretty close to spec. I am wondering if i would run into problems re-installing it since it was once bent.

I've straightened several bent driveshafts, you can get it much better than .025", you should be able to get them within .005". The newer xps bend them when the rear carrier bearing goes out. the key is to be patient and keep testing on v-blocks and dial indicator to find out where the bend is, a slate table is helpful too. kind of like testing to see if your pool stick is straight or not.

once straightened, it will be fine.

I've never seen an RXP bend a drive shaft, they are way beefy compared to the older ones, but I do think it's possible and what your describing sounds either like a bearing in your pump went out or your drive shaft is bent. bent driveshafts cause major cavitation and shudder. doesn't take long to pull and check.
