Getting ready to remove pistons from 580cc rebuild but am not sure how to remove the clips that hold the piston onto the connecting rod. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I'm not familiar with 580 engines but if it's like other rotax it should have a circlip so you'll need circlip pliers, you can get a set at Harbor Freight, be careful when you remove the piston pin, the needle bearings are gonna fall out be careful that they don't go in the crank case.
Like Lou said you will need circlip Pliers to remove the piston Circlip's. I have removed them before without the circlip pliers just using standard needle nonse but it was not easy and this method wont work to re install them. A little trick is you don't need to remove both circlips in each piston just one. use a screwdriver or punch and tap the wrist pin out the side that you took the circlip out of.
also to add to what Lou said the bearing is going to want to fall out so its best to put rags down in the crank and around the connecting rod so nothing will fall in the crankcase
