Piston Pin Puller ?

Can any of you guys who do their own top end work, tell me what piston pin puller tool do you use, and if the Bombardier Piston pin puller 529-036-002 will work on the 800, and is that tool the only tool I need, as the OEM shows differnt part numbers for what looks like additional parts for the tool. if there is one you guys use, that would help.

Thanks

I'm trying to find that part number in the manual. How did you get that part number? It should work but I'd like to confirm it for you.

What are you trying to get off? Is it the clip that you are trying to remove or the piston itself...

I am trying to find the correct tool for removing the piston from the connecting rod, I have the "circlips" off, and I could just use a punch and hammer to knock out the pin, but the manual calls for "piston pin Puller 290-977-092" and when you look it up I get part number 529-035-503, supercedes 290-977-092. ( part number 529-036-002 I found on E-Bay ) but the manual also calls for "expansion sleeve 290-877-041 " & "bushing 290-877-181" & "extractor nut 290-877-155" but all three come up as "no longer available" not even a superseded number, so before I order the 529-035-503 I would like to know if that is all I need, or will I have a part that needs three more parts and I can not get them, the other thing is the manual calls for using this same tool to install, it say you can use a fiber hammer, but this seems like it would put a lot of strees on the lower rod bearing.

Just use about a foot of 1/4 all thread and two sockets and a two nuts and some washers
do you use a deep socket to accept the pin and a smaller socket to push the pin into the deep socket ? I think I see what you are doing. do you do this same set up to reinstall the piston and pin ?

just get a socket that fits on the pin and tap it lightly with a hammer till it pops out...i always have someone hold the rod just for added support ...but.... i have never used a piston removal tool..seems like it is a waste of money to me

Yes use a deep well about a 12mm or something that will just slide in the piston to push the pin out. Then a bigger one on the other side thats bigger than the hole on the piston so the pin can slide in it, then just crank the two nuts.

You dont need anything to put them in, if so you probably need a new pin on rod.

If it doesnt come out with a light tap or two with the hammer then do this puller method, I wouldnt risk messing up the crank if your going to reuse it.

I too need this tool but all the reading I've done on the www says to use sockets and bolts. Will 1/4 inch all thread be strong enough? I was gonna use a O2 sensor socket cause it's slotted and can kinda see what is going on.

I got a 12mm socket and an extension and pushed my pins out of the pistons just now with my bare hands. Both are off the rods. LOL. Damage to piston. I'll have to post a pic. Stay tuned.
