I searched a little for this but I also want some input on a color scheme.

Heres the deal my ski is all winterized and im tired of looking at it so I need to change it. I have a 97 spx with the 787 in it. what i want to do is paint the white part of the hull gloss black... leaving the bottom of the hull yellow and the steering pad yellow and what not. So how should I go about doing this. Is there marine paint that i can paint over with clear. Id like to do it the right way but am unsure so im put with a how to and if you guys think this would look good let me know.

Thanks Josh

you can get marine paint but not realy needed ,, also depending on the primer used, depends if it will stick or not.

if i were you i would flatten the jetski, and re, gel-coat it. you get the different color pigments that you mix to the gel- coat , that way it won't fade or flake off, and you can put it pretty much any color you wish

Painted a few ski"s onced had. Used stuff called "Western",..its a one-stage, after I used their primer, but ski's looked killer...

Gel or paint will both get you where you wanna be, but there are some definite differences. Gel will be 10 times more durable as far as chipping, fading, and so on, but will take 10 times as long to apply correctly and cost a lot more. Base-clear paint would be a lot cheaper and easier to apply, but you would just have to make sure you take it easy on the surface to keep it from chipping and flaking.

I would do the base-clear since you are doing just the top. You can add a good flex agent to the clear coat to prevent it from flaking off if you do damage it. If it was the bottom it would be a different story. Good luck, and let me see some pics if you do paint it. I have a 96 SPX myself, and was considering doing some work to it too. I never have been a big fan of the teal-green color.
