Painting the pump question

The pump on my 98 SPX is a mix of materials which I'm wanting to paint, black. The steering nozzle appears to be aluminum and the cone shaped part it is connected to appears to be plastic or carbon fiber of some kind or maybe just oxidized plastic. The part the plastic part bolts to looks like it's made of bronze or copper.

Does one kind of paint and painting method cover all these different materials? Do they need to be primed and which paint works best or is it futile to paint them given the water force trying to peel it off.

Start a resto thread for your ski. Lump all your questions into one thread. I can migrate your other threads into that one. It's so much easier to keep track of one thread vs 60 for the same ski. I've been here almost 3 years now, I only have 40ish threads that I started. I'm on my 4th resto thread. I just see to many questions in like 4 threads and it makes it difficult to remember who answered what. I'm not complaining, just trying to keep it easy.

Thanks for your reply to my painting question. I'm sorry if I broke any forum rules by posting too many questions. If I decide to restore my 98 SPX, I will take your suggestion to heart. Please realize I am not as talented and knowledgeable as you and others here that have done excellent work bringing back these older 2-cycle SeaDoos. The Restoration threads are literal goldmines of information on all aspects of these machines, but they tend to be more tutorial than inquisitive and interactive in nature. I am far from qualified to teach anyone anything about fixing SeaDoos. If I see a question I might know something about, I'm willing to help where I can, but with my limited knowledge in this area, I have to be careful my good intentions don't do more harm than good misguiding someone.

While I appreciate that it might be easier for you to keep track of one thread vs 60 for the same ski, as a member, I would hate to have to plow though threads tens or hundreds of messages long to find the answer to a single question about one model ski. Many SeaDoo models are similar in their basic structure and problems arise and can be solved on common ground across models and years of manufacture. So someone not interested in restoring a 1998 SPX might be helped, or could offer help, on a question that crosses many models. If all members posted all their questions in one thread each, the forum would be practically useless for members.

Again, I apologize if I've broken any forum rules or tribal customs. I will try to limit my questions and the number of threads I start. If you have issues with me in particular, I'm welcome to discuss them in private. Else, if you have any suggestions to painting nozzles, I'm sure more than just me would benefit from the answer.

I don't know if you were referring to me specifically, but I have only posted 25 threads, not 60. They were all posted in what I believe was the right section with what I felt were relevant subjects so people with similar concerns could easily search and find them.

Lol, you didn't break any rules. I'm just trying to make keeping track of your information easier for you to access when you need it. No worries, just keep going along as you were.

Some guys use a wire wheel and appliance paint. You could try the plastic paint Rustoleum makes. Jetskigoodies had a 98spx resto thread where he painted what you're looking to do. The ski was white, black and red.

Thanks, I appreciate the gesture. I import the good stuff here and elsewhere to OneNote on both the iPhone and computer. Keeps it all in one place and easy to find. I'm at the age if I put my coffee cup down, it's usually cold by the time I find it again.

I'll check out the Rustoleum plastic paint. I found the thread you mentioned and finally found the part where he painted the pump around msg 225 out of 235, but no mention of how or what he used that I could see. Earlier in the thread he mentions using PPG products, but I'm not sure where to get those. Is that the same PPG as Perry Performance Group down in Dania, FL? It's a great looking ski in the black white and red, but I'll consider myself lucky if I can just get mine running for less than the $2500 he was asking for his which was a beautiful piece of very professional work and well worth the price. A bargain. I guess I'm looking at a full teardown of the engine which means some special tools like an alignment tool, flywheel puller, and much more, even if I buy a rebuilt or new crankshaft. I don't think I'm going to attempt crank bearing work. Life's too short to get killed by a 50 ton press wandering around in the dark.
