OMG seriously who are these people on Craigslist??

I'll let you guys know that it has taken me 4, YES 4 different email addresses to land the last 2 FREE 95 XP limited hulls I got. I tried my work email, my Gmail, AOL, and MSN. Finally hit on then MSN address for one of them. The other one I actually noticed the same "ski" showing off a cover for an X4 on Ebay, contacted the seller thru Ebay about the free hull on craigslist. The guy was very impressed with my detective work, turns out he was a cop, LOL. Sometimes you gotta think outside the box. So keep that in mind, if you're not getting a reply, try a different address.

interesting point.... i have a couple emails, and i've been emailing the same guy for 4 days about a 97 xp, with no response... yet he renew's the ad... i'll try my gmail.
and i'm generally very specific, name, location, i'm interested, here's my phone #, etc...
to try to avoid the people that are avoiding me because they think i'm a spammer.

I am having a rough couple of weeks on craigslist transactions. Two weeks ago I lost TWO $20k boats to guys that sold them out from underneath me (had appointments set up – showed and sold it to another guy). Sucks but that’s the way it goes I guess.
But last night is a pretty good story, guy has a Triton double trailer for sale for $1,050, the ad says “good condition” and there’s a grainy picture of it, looks OK. So I emailed him and asked only two questions, do you have the title and do the lights work. (Remember these two questions for later in the story)
“Yes to both” was his email response.
Me – “will you take $800 cash and I’ll come pick it up right now”
“yes”
25 minute drive later I get to his house and it’s a two million dollar mansion on the lake, so far so good. Then I see the frame has been broken and welded back together (not very well either). Thanks for not mentioning that A-HOLE but OK it’s an $800 trailer not a huge deal. I agree to buy it and give him the cash, he hands me a title card that says 2008 Homemade. When I ask him what that is about he acts like it’s no big deal…oh I lost the original this is what the DMV gave me…..OK fine let’s make sure the numbers match the plate. THEY DON’T! This is strike 3 buddy. Now I’m getting upset and can smell booze on his breath while I explain to him how he wasted my time making me drive out there.
I offer him $600 and I’ll deal with the title. No he’s not having it “I don’t need the money and am just going to give it to the local food shelf” – what that has to do with anything I don’t know. I need the trailer so I’m in a bind - I have him sign a bill of sale and then I hook it up to my truck to test the lights. You guessed it, they don’t work. Strike 4! (I should have walked a while ago) I unhooked the trailer told him I do not want this thing and give me my money back right now. He hands me the wad of 100s back and I count it right in front of him. I left the trailer in the middle of the street and said “this was a complete waste of my time and I can tell you’ve been drinking too” got in my truck and drove away.

Hey at least I got a good story out the deal.

UPDATE: I just googled the guys name and turns out he's an attorney who has been in legal trouble many times. One of them was for buying a bunch of cars in a widow's name while he was handling her husbands estate.

Crazy Brian...now you gotta tell the story of....well lets just call it "clown ass motorsports shop on the hill"

Brian's trailer story reminds me of when I was looking for a single trailer and one was posted about 45 minutes away so I
give the guy a call - ask him for pictures as he hadn't posted any. The guy would send them "asap" but the trailer "was
in great shape". Then I ask the next question - do you have the registration for it (In Canada that's what we need).

He says he has to look for it but he "knows where it is and he'll call me back as soon as he finds it". I only had that night
to go look so I was actually sitting in the truck waiting for his phone call...no call so I phone him and of course he can't
find the paperwork so it's a waste of time to drive there. I tell him to find the paperwork and then call me in the next few
days and maybe I'll be able to come out.

So a few days later the guy posts the pictures now of the trailer.......I noticed just a few issues....one of the front "rails"
going to the tongue was bent severely (I don't even know how that could happen), the crank to pull the seadoo on was
missing, the wheels had no fenders at all.

Yep - it's in great shape.

Some people r just in another world. Good luck with that isn't bad at all. Some guy had a seadoo cover on cl . I asked him what color it was.

He lives 3 hrs from me but I was looking for someone in my neighborhood that might be heading that vacation way. Two days later I get a text. Guess u weren't that interested. It's not me that needs a cover for my seadoo.

I responded. Yo dude what's up w u. The right text to send me would have been" I still have cover would be happy to answer anymore questions u have. Text anytime.

You on the other hand must answer every e mail like u were speaking to the queen of England. Would u say to her lots of luck with that queenly. That's the way it is when u have a business. I ate plenty of shit in my day but in the end it tastes like money or honey

lol, i'm with ya chucked

read it twice myself...
took a shot of tequila.. it helped, but not enough.
took a 2nd shot.. fell asleep...

dammit...

I'll try again tonight

I've posted a few bad/funny stories on this thread, how about a good one for a change. I found a boat in Ohio (12 hours each way drive from me) that was about $10k less than what I could sell it for here. I called the guy, he had all the right answers, older guy, stored in doors, no salt water, rarely used, etc... everything he said made sense, almost too good to be true, I kept waiting for him to say "you have to wire me the money first". He never did. We agreed to cash at pick up. I paid my retired father in law to drive out there in my truck with the cash. 36 hours later it's in my garage and the boat is perfect, showroom condition, just like the seller and pictures represented.

For some reason he hasn't taken the ad down yet:

I responded to a CL ad for a 2002 GTX 4 tec and trailer down in Seattle area (about 2 hrs away). We emailed back and forth
and pics on CL looked pretty good. The wife was answering the email and when I got tired of typing and wanted
to talk to her, she said that "it would have to be quick, it's 89 cents a minute"....so I said whatever and sent Q's
by email. Answers were good - essentially original owner, no issues other than a plug etc etc. Any movement on
price? So she drops the price and I said I'd be interested at that price.

Anyhoo....my buddy and I take off to see it last night. She wants to meet in a Fred Meyer parking lot. (Bell #1)...
so OK. We show up and my buddy and I get out of the truck.

BOOM - first impression? This thing is a ROACH. Water stain around the entire hull is about 3 inches wide. 3" chunk is
out of the hood but glued back on - not too bad a job actually but woah - what a eye-catcher! This is the blue/white
model exactly like my avatar but a 4 stroke. The white top has numerous numerous black marks and stains all over it.
The footwells were yellowed. Another crack at the top of the hood. The tote under the hood is gone "never had one".

Machine starts OK, engine compartment is OK. So believe it or not I'm still able to restrain my inner voice telling me to
get back in the truck and I'm still interested. Deal included a single trailer. Since I'm importing it into Canada any trailer
has to have the VIN decal (when I pronounced it "decal - one word) another goofball that came with them chuckled
and said "say that again"...I said "what - decal?" He said we (USA I assume) pronounce that De-cal. I said I didn't
realize the decal had a hyphen in it....it also needs a tire size/GVW etc STICKER on the trailer.

So we can't find either. The tongue crank had what looked like a decal showing underneath it. We had to walk across
the parking lot and buy a wrench from Home Depot (we were in my buddy 2013 truck a week old and he hadn't outfitted it
yet). Bell #2.

Get the crank off and yes the VIN number is there but just a very basic one with the VIN and Manufacturer (Spirit Trailer) -
out of business in Washington so can't get replacement decals.

Bell #3 and my brain finally said it's done with these idiots.

Said I can't buy the trailer without the proper decals. My buddy for some reason said what's the price without taking the
trailer. Husband says we already dropped on the price so the price is the same with or without the trailer....

We said "OK Thanks" and left... To be fair the importing issue was mine not their's.

The biggest issue here was the condition of the machine. I should have taken a picture so I could post it for you guys.

If I owned it in THAT condition and you were over to my place and wanted to look at it I'd say forget it. Can't see it. I'd
be too embarrassed. I kept looking at the husband back and forth as I was rubbing the marks with my thumb and the cracks
in the hood - waiting for him to say some kind of excuse for the cleanliness of the machine. Nope - not a frigging word.

First impression is SO key in a sale of anything right? When I got out of the truck it sounds stupid but my heart sank. I thought
"oh shit. This thing is disgusting". Do they even take care of this machine? Anything they have? Their truck was so-so at least.

I just can't believe that they couldn't take 15 minutes with a magic eraser, soap and water. That thing would have been 100x
better and probably shone.

Now I think I know why they didn't want us to come to the house...and memo to self. Try and get CURRENT pics of the seadoo
although who knows if they are still the current ones. I guess you can ask for specific areas of the seadoo but MAN what a
joke.

End

Note - it actually has a happy ending. I had noticed a package deal - 1998 GTX and 2004 GTX Ltd SC and trailer that I had for some
reason sent a text about the previous night. Tracked the contact info down and was able to drive another hour and closed a deal
on that package. Didn't want the double trailer or 98 GTX but after I flip these (no work at all required) I'll be in to the 4 tec for about
$1800. It's pretty sweet - 68 hours (want to re-do the SC right away) and my buddy noticed the little cubby under the steering
looked different from our others. He said it came with this small waterproof container so I looked inside.....a GPS unit that clicks into
that cubby!! YEE HAH. And it WORKS YEE HAH again!

The guy also gave me a waterproof SEADOO back pack he also had. Wasn't sure what was inside it. What was inside
it? 2 boxes of new plugs (total 16) for the 98 and a box (8) of plugs for the 04 plus sand bag anchor etc etc.

It was a 10 hour trip at the end but yes it's the little things in life.....
