OK to run without air filter housing on? Just to fine tune carb.

I have a slight hesitation when I take off from idle, that does not occur if I gently apply the choke. So I am thinking I am running a little lean.

I don't like working on carb adjustments around the air cleaner/arrestor housing. So if I removed it for a couple hours until I got the carbs adjusted fully, would it mess up the adjustments when I put the housing back on?

I guess my ultimate question is does the housing restrict airflow in a way that it would affect the way it performs at a specific jet setting?

yup, it keeps the manifold pressure where it needs to be, for the n/s assy to work correctly.

My buddy swore about the k/n filters, i told'em i'll have to go thru the carbs..etc. He didnt listen, ended up bring'n over, so i took ski to water, along with a stock airbox assy, drove ski w/ pods, then installed the stock assy.....he now owes me 40 buks for the assy, but i kept his k/n...:reddevil:

I was afraid of something like that. I was hoping to be able to reach the screws easily, get it tuned in, then put the cover back on.

I guess i will rich it up 1/4 turn and hope that fixes it the first time.
