Wondering if anyone has a link to a drawing / photo of the location for the small oil reservoir ( 1 OZ. ) that has to be drained and filled when the motor takes on water.
Does anything have to be removed to access it ?

Thanks.

Steve

Lou,

I remember someone talking about a specific drain and fill plug for the 787, - and adding 1 ounce of SAE 30.

Steve

The drain is on the left side of the PTO, here is a pic through a mirror of a 1997 787 drain.

This is a 96 787, it will be the same but you will have a cap on the fill hole, it is a slotted screwdriver cap.

Martin,
On the pic of the 96 787 what is the red arrow without a title to it? (pointing to in-between the jugs)

I thought 96 didn't have a drain plug that's removable.

Does the fill just unscrew????...i didn't think it did.

I had to re-edit a pic I used before for something else, I couldn't find the original. The red arrow means nothing for the purpose of this thread, sorry for the confusion.

You are right the 96's dont have drain plugs, the top picture is of a 97 with an actual drain.
I didnt have a good picture of the 97 that showed the actual drain and fill, so I used this one from the 96 so he would have an idea where to look for the fill and drain.

Kicker,

Thanks for the photos, but it appears that my fill plug is sealed, I scraped all the paint off and there is no slot. It just looks like a freeze plug. I did remove some things to better access the drain, it'll be a bear, but I can't proceed unless I can refill it. Here are a couple pics of the area.

Thanks.

Steve

The bolt in your first pic with the mirror is not your drain, it is one of your case bolts. If there was a drain it would be just to the right of that bolt but an allen screw, not a hex head.
I thought all the 97's had the counterbalance cavity access but it looks like yours does not. So you will not be able to change the oil in there.

Just for fun............what are your last 2 numbers on the hull identification number? That is the black plastic plate that is riveted to the rear deck.

Actually it was mid 97 when SeaDoo made the change to the fill and drain plug, if your ski has a fill plug you can suck the old oil out with a turkey baster, see the thread in post 2.

image.jpgMy 97 Gtx has a feb 96 date I believe, no drain plug on mine.

The last 4 digits are E797.

Is the red circled area still a fill for this cavity that is just sealed ?

If I had gotten that bolt out and no oil followed .........

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but in the one picture, the PTO boot has a Tridon clamp on it instead of a Oeitiker clamp, shouldn't a nylon zip tie be used instead if the OEM clamp isn't used?

From what I can tell in your pictures you do not have a drain or fill, so nothing to do there.

Gear clamps work fine but you run the risk of cutting into the rubber if they are too tight.
