I completed my bypass installation last night. Thanks to everyone for their input and advise. I have not started or even put gas in and will not have time until next week. I had a long drive today and was thinking of the process and think I might have done one step wrong. I disconnected the oil cap and removed the oil resovior. Should I have left it on as to not trigger any low oil volumes warning?

I disconnected the oil cap at a connection down by the starter? Not sure this is correct.

Thanks again.

Tim,

This is a Mercury engine. So... there isn't' an RV to keep lubed.

Cabadiesel: Most people just leave the tank on, in case they want to put the system back together. Then... they zip-tie the float up, to keep the alarm off.

I don't remember, when the tank is full... if the switch is open or closed. But basically... if the oil alarm comes on... just put the wires together (where you disconnected the cap) and that should turn it off.

I ended up removing my tank as well. I disconnected the 2 wires that lead to the cap, and then I made a jump wire that has butt connectors at both ends. I plugged in, where the cap was plugged in. I'm hoping this will kill the low oil warning. I will take a picture tomorrow. I will be able to tell you early this week if the jumper worked as planned.

I kind of figured the wires should be together. That way... the alarm would sound if you had the cap disconnected.

Ok....I figured out what to do with the 2 wires after removing the oil tank.....nothing. That jumper that I had made to connect the 2 leads that used to go to the cap on the oil tank did not work the way I had expected it would. So I pulled the jumper out, and the two leads left disconnected is what you want. I just wrapped some electrical tape around the 2 of them to stop them from bouncing around and that was it. No "low oil" light or alarm.
