So bare with me Im pretty new and learning still. Gona throw some stuff out there. Its looking like the oil and fuel filters for my 1997 SeaDoo Challenger single engine 787 are "discontinued". SO, can I use generic inline oil and fuel filters instead of sourcing the actual fit replacement equivalents? Im talking something like this...(pic 1)
And what is the micron rating for the fuel filter that apparently you can't buy now. Should I go with one of those or adapt a system with a spin on or something maybe like this or possibly a lot better...(pic 2) maybe a better micron rating if needed but i highly doubt that 2nd pic is a worse micron rating than the stock filter. I want to assume these oil and fuel filters from the factory are basically the equivalents to a generic fuel and oil filter today that you can buy at CanTire or wherever, or am I wrong?

Or am I just not very good with finding parts online? Keep in mind I am in Western Canada.

Also are parts like the float for the tank baffle, fuel filter, inline oil filters (please add more parts if possible or relevant), Generic to all 2 stroke units whether they are boats or ski's? Like I said I'm learning so if this is obvious break it to me gently. WHAT PARTS ARE INTERCHANGEABLE NO MATTER THE UNIT??? Im coming from the 787 single engine Challenger side here so fill me in here please... unit is new to me so i gots get some stuff done and start fresh here.

No, don't start trying to use automotive filters or you can starve the engine of fuel and oil.

Oh. K thanks. Every link i searched through I kept seeing discontinued. Thanks yet again for the help. Ill probably add them on to the order when I get the Genuine carb kit if they are in stock. Shipping is a killer right now time and cost wise so I thought it was worth an ask to source something locally if they were discontinued.

I've seen someone post here about using a water seperator type fuel filter. Said it made a big difference in performance. Are these type filters too restrictive? I have two marked to purchase soon. I mean it makes sense it should run better with less non fuel in the fuel mix.

You seem like you know, so I'm wondering what exactly these pickup pump type pumps can handle. I just bought a K&N sintered filter for my John Deere mower which uses a small pump like this and I'm pretty sure it is a bit lean running on the high side, which in it's case isn't adjustable on that model so I can't richen the mix with a screw turn. JD is good about that type thing.

To the OP, the fuel filter on my 98 Sportster 1800 is more of a strainer than a filter- very fine mesh. As discolored as the plastic bowls are I'm pretty sure they are original to the boat.

I would never suggest using any aftermarket automotive or marine filters on these. It doesn’t take much too run these fuel systems lean and destroy engines.
