OH Sandy :(

I went out with a couple friends to check out the damage. The mainland was not hit nearly as hard, and the main damage was to the older, lower lying areas with low bulkheads or to bayfront property. The damage on the barrier island side was much more localized, with most of Seaside Park and other areas flooded but not completely destroyed like areas of Ortley and Mantoloking.

Wow,
That was some serious surge of water to knock it off foundation.
Great pictures but sad it happened.

Hurricane sandy hit landfall coming right into the beach haven/holgate inlet across the great bay and a dead bull`s eye hit to Tuckerton.
There are 32 reported homes off the foundations and into the seas and over 240 heavily damaged homes... One death in Tuckerton beach and one in Mystik for this area... Osborne Island/Mystik is heavily damaged. Boats pulled from their moorings and thru the walls of peoples homes. There is a heavy presence of Police, Staties, and the National Guard.
Gas/oil/sewage on the flooded roads and areas. I know I drove thru them...
many Homes/docks are damage as far inland up the Mullica River, I saw floating docks and parts of houses as far up 542 as Batsto village...wow...
The marina`s in my back yard and all down Great Bay Blvd are severely damaged and most are gone... I`ve watch these business`s that cater to the Pennso`s, visitors, and locals for renting boats/tackle and equip go from restored to gone... very very sad to see this...
As the clean up continues with the roaring sound of heavy equipment everywhere, chain saws, Vermeer shredders, and Construction cranes retrieving boats, the amount of damage and loss will take years to resolve. The LEH was already in bad shape due to the economy, all this has changed the area for a long time to come.
There are still a few boats way up in the marsh alongside us...
We had a burning smell in the air for a few days from gas/home fires.
This is still very hard to take in...
We did not gawk or take pictures of the sad people going thru their belongings to preserve their dignity.
We have had many lookers come thru here like it`s the 4th of July...
We all do what we can to comfort our neighbors and friends.
