Off to the shop, I cant get above 4000 RPM, and its likde driving a snow plow. Our dealer in town just says, I wont know whats wrong until we look at it. Well, I cleaned the RAVEs and fuel filter; changed the spark plugs and teh wires look good. I think the next step is to pull and clean the carb, and change the fuel lines (gray ones are still there). How much should I expect to pay for this at the dealer? How long would it take a novice (me) as opposed to them?

thx in advance as always.

Guestimating $100/hr per carb, and $100/hr to replace fuel lines...$300.00 Gonzo...You've managed to repair/clean the Raves, I think you can do the carbs as well....use the "PARTS" tab on top of page for pics....

NO! Don't take it to the dealer just yet!.....well, at least consider this before you shell out the $300-$400 job.

I just finished (succesfully even :) ) replacing the fuel hose and rebuilding the carbs myself. I've worked on cars before, but this was my first carb job. It can be done over a weekend easily if you have the parts.

The longest part was cleaning the damn paper gasket off the front fuel plate on the MAG carb.....that could take you all afternoon alone. :(

Just make sure you keep track of what you remove, where it was routed and assemble back the same way. Be patient and keep the small parts organized.....and take digital pictures as you go along to help with reassembly.

Pros will say this is a job that could be done in an afternoon......I could see that. But I'd need to practice a couple times to make that claim. Something tells me my friend's 97 GTX (my HX's trailer neighbor) is up for the same job since it still has grey hoses and the original carbs.

Then Again you could get lucky, my 97 GTX wasn't getting above 4000 RPM and turned out to be a throttle linkage problem according to the mechanic, now revs perfectly, so may be worth checking the linkage movement

I would clean the carbs and remove the gray lines.
