No propulsion except at idle

Even if the wear ring was spinning, would that make any difference? It would still be doing it's job wouldn't it? I agree, the clearance looks OK. There wasn't any brass dust/shavings. It looks like the dealer will be doing the work, so they will be putting it back together. I will make sure they know about the grease.

My thinking is that the splines in the impeller look worn down. See the picture I took of them. Do you agree?
If the wear ring was spinning with the impeller you would have almost no propulsion, banking on that the ring could spin in there when the pump is installed. I noticed lots of brass dust in the photo and I really only see one way it was produced.

I will take a picture of my impeller splines this morning. I have it off. Given your problem with propulsion I'd say it is a good bet you have a drive problem and those splines look awful flat at the top. When you say sudden issue.... when these things finally give up the ghost.... it happens all at once. We've had pumps with broken shafts that turn fine by hand and since everything is turning you don't suspect it.

Okie Dokie. These are pictures of my impeller just removed yesterday. I tried to get an angle that would show the shape of the splines and their depth. Yours don't look at deep as mine as Mikidymac said and I'd say your is... "shot". My prop was missing the boot when I disassembled it so it is a good thing I checked. As you can see in the picture my prop is a bit dinged up but not as bad as the venturi or the wear ring. Something did get in there.20180515_071408.jpg20180515_071414.jpg20180515_071443.jpg

Here are pictures of my prop shaft/drive shaft just in case you want to compare. I wouldn't even call mine 100% good cuz I sure was getting a lot of rattling. Being dry will do that and I'm glad I caught it. I will clean it all up and check for looseness. As I said, mine was missing the boot so it should never look like this.20180515_073431.jpg20180515_073510.jpg20180515_073531.jpg

Make sure you get a new neoprene seal and rubber driveshaft bumper there etemplet.
Ha ha... I am a quick study and a good student. I ordered the neoprene seal last week. :) I found the bumper so I guess it fell out on removal. Thanks for keeping me straight. I'm gonna dress up the impeller and the pump housing vanes. Here is a picture. Don't tell me I need to replace this. At least that is not what I want to hear. LOL The pump bearings feel great.20180515_071613.jpg20180515_071622.jpg

Those look pretty bad actually. IF nothing else clean them up with a dremmel. You need to save your money for the X4, LOL.

It is your fault that I am looking at 2 X4s for $500. At some point my wife of 42 years is gonna look at me sideways. She never has though. I am really looking forward to building an XP. These are gonna need some cosmetic work though.
