If the wear ring was spinning with the impeller you would have almost no propulsion, banking on that the ring could spin in there when the pump is installed. I noticed lots of brass dust in the photo and I really only see one way it was produced.Even if the wear ring was spinning, would that make any difference? It would still be doing it's job wouldn't it? I agree, the clearance looks OK. There wasn't any brass dust/shavings. It looks like the dealer will be doing the work, so they will be putting it back together. I will make sure they know about the grease.
My thinking is that the splines in the impeller look worn down. See the picture I took of them. Do you agree?
