Got the controller in last night and the gain adjusted. The controller comes with a black plastic bezel that it snaps into for a flush installation, but in order to use the bezel, you'd have to hack a hole in the hull. No way. So I went down to Tap Plastics and bought a little scrap of red acrylic and some cement, and made up a little surround for the controller. After the cement cured, I wet sanded and buffed it and attached it to the hull with double sided tape. I think it looks pretty good and definitely better than cutting a hole in the dash.
Chased down a few rattles from things buzzing in the hull when the bass hits. Very happy with the sound quality and volume.
Here is the plastic do-dad that I made
...and with the controller in it
...and all mounted.
Finished!
