Hi everyone, i just got a 98 seadoo speedster in need of alot of tlc. The story of this boat is my bestfriend that i met in midleschool at the age of 11 years old, his family was always into boats and has a place on the yuma river they go to multiple times a year, he bought the boat in 98 when he moved back to california, we would go and meet him at the river and spend the weekend hanging out with him and his family, there is alot memories with this boat. In 2005 he passed away due to a heart problem he has had since birth, his brother was gonna take ownership of the boat but one engine had some problems so they had it worked on and the mechanic did not hook up the heat sensor on the head and when they put it back in the water it overheated and siezed. So the boat sat all these years and his brother came to colorado to visit when another friend passed away and told me to call his parents and they said come get the boat and fix it to have for memories.

Yeah sorry about the crappy circumstance...Sounds like you at lest wont have much into it money wise though. My first boat was the 98 speedster and i loved it. They are a lot of fun.

Yeah it was a hard time losing him. Yes they gave me the boat for free so I could fix it back up.

It will be nice to have a physical item to remember him by.

Good luck with the repairs and hope you have a great season.

Yes it was really cool of his parents to let me do this, i think part of it for them also was they would rather se it being used rather then just sitting and rotting away like it was. It needs alot of work i only have 1 motor in it and the seats are completely rotted, alot of the plastics are sunbaked and brittle. So first item at hand is to get another motor, sucks the old one is not in the boat because it had the flywheel and everything so now i need all of it... i dont even see the carbs anywhere, i do have the prop sitting inside the boat though. Also been searching where to get seats... i have all the bottom cushions but am missing 1 back cushion and the arm rest are in really bad shape too. I have never owned a boat before so this is all new to me, i do alot of work on cars, i built my 92 jeep cherokee into a rock crawler and am still building my ford festiva just built a race motor for it so im good at mechanical but just never worked on boats so i will be searching for info on here and asking for some help from you guys.

Sounds like a ton of work but your at the best site in the world for tackling this challenge-r...er....I mean speedster.

Between my brother and I we should have dang near everything you need and lots of technical support to back those parts up. My brother has parted out a couple of those boats, and I have lots of motor and pump parts.

Nick^ and his brother Jess will certainly have the parts, and we will help you with anything else you need. I'd address the mechanicals first, starting with the engine you have. Get the carbs off and rebuild them, clean every drop of fuel out of the fuel system, and start a list. MECHANICALS only. Pull the pumps and inspect them, also check the motor you have and make sure it still spins. Spray oil down through the plugs, and rotate by hand to distribute it to help preserve the motor.

Become a premium member here and get the service manual, you'll need it.

Thanks guys I will definitely need some help as I have never owned a boat before... My plan was to focus on the mechanical first, I will do the oil in the motor I have, do I use 2 stroke oil to pour in the spark plug hole? And how much? The other big thing is purchasing a 2nd motor so if anybody has a lead on that, that would be huge. Nick and jess I will be taking you up on parts for sure, starting with motor, and then I noticed the plastic parts of the 2 windscreens are all cracked and broken at the hinges and latches. I should prob start a build thread on this huh?

Welcome, sounds like it will be a fun project bringing her back to life. You'll need plenty of Coors Light, but looks like you're at the right spot for that!
