Hi. After a week of shopping around, (and being dismayed at the out-the-door prices of the higher end skis), I purchased a new 2009 Sea-Doo GTX155. One of the reasons that I spent the extra couple of grand for the Sea-Doo over the Yamaha VX cruiser, was that my brother's stock 2005 Yamaha vx110 Deluxe will only hit 55 mph. I figured that the Sea-Doo, with 45 more HP, would be good for 60-62 mph. I was kind of surprised when, after a couple of hours of break-in, I pegged the throttle, and the ski struggled to hit 55. Why is this newer more powerful ski no faster than the older Yamaha? Thanks.

My 2005 GTX 155HP 4-Tec has a top end speed of 52-55 MPH depending upon weight. (fuel, beer, ect.) With that being said I believe your ski is running as designed. Will be curious to see what speed other GTX owners are getting with the 155HP model.

mine says 65 on the dash. i'm gonna use my iphone next time to double check how accurate it is. i've heard the speedo's aren't all that accurate and the only real way to know is with a GPS. that's pretty much the only acceptable way to judge top speed on an ATV, so i would imagine that it's the same for skis.

i have a 2010 GTX 155 as well the most i got on the dash was 60 mph...and i haven't broken her in properly yet. Have you tried riding it in sport mode? ... I didn't notice if the top speed was more in sport mode but the acceleration is def good! Also was it in choppy water?..in choppy water i won't do more than 55. Maybe try playing around with your vts setting also...i heard this may affect top speed. I'm knew to the world of pwc's so maybe their would be ppl here more knowledgeable than me.
