Molykote, Dielectric or Vaseline

The Op Guide says to use Dow 111 or Molykote on the ignition coils.

Does plain old di-electric grease or even Vaseline do the same thing?

Isn't it used just for any potential water intrusion?

Thanx,

though it MAY stop water intrusion, it is not the design to do so. The plug(s) themselves and rubber caps are in place for water concerns.

Dielectric grease is electrically insulating and does not break down when high voltage is applied. It is often applied to electrical connectors, particularly those containing rubber gaskets, as a means of lubricating and sealing rubber portions of the connector without arcing.

Thx, CoastieJoe.
Do you know why BRP specs Dow 111?

Seems like the same purpose to me and di-electric is way easier to get.

Probably some sort of a tie between the two companies. Like, BRP dealers stick it for example.

Ok, thx.

I will smear some di-electric as spec'd in the manual around those ignition coils when I winterize at the end of next month. It will be my first 4-tec winterization.

I use Molykote, as recommended. It's much, much thicker than vaseline or di-electric grease. The reason Molykote is preferred is that even after intense heat, it doesn't seem to get thin and start running. In other words, it stays well-sealed ride after ride.

Thanks.

I was under the impression that the engine did not get that hot. Because this is right underneath the ignition coil "umbrella" (at least it kinda looks that way till you push the coil down, then it rolls up) I can see where it touches the cylinder head. There is definitely grease in there now, but I do not know what kind.
