I wanted de winterize my ski after the long winter today
Removed the cover and here's what I saw
Pink stains in some parts of the seat.

Cover is an OEM seadoo
Ski is a 2013 Seadoo GTI SE 130

Has 12 hrs. Washed and waxed and put away for the winter
Stored in my garage. Stays around 40f for the most part in the dead of winter

Mold? Never had a ski seat do this

The mold is common when moisture is trapped. During off season I recommend laying something between the seat and cover that will breath such as a piece of brown cardboard for air circulation.

Try Attwood mildew stain remover and see if most or all of the stain is taken off, allow it to set wet-soaked with this for 10 minutes, using an uncolored (such as white cotton) rag.

Mister clean magic erasers... Those things work wonders, they'll get spots clean you didn't even know were dirty

cheap squirt bottle of tile-x or off brand mildew remover. (shower cleaner stuff) $3

(I discovered THAT after trying everything under the sink, and failing miserably) then found that tile-x was wipe on wipe off and i was amazed !!!!

I've had good luck with Starbrite Mold and mildew cleaner and letting it soak, but it's $15 a bottle and I'm sure its almost identical to household stuff you could buy for a fraction of the price.

I'll have to check out tile x.

Do not use a magic eraser on the vinyl unless it's a last resort. It is just fine sandpaper and will scrub away the protective coating on the vinyl.

Doesn't look like mold and only seems to be on those plastic pieces. Seems the plastic has been stained or the pigment changed color.

Now that I'm looking at it closely, I'm not sure if this is mold or discoloration of the parts. There are 4 vinyl ish parts of the seat that are changing to the same pinkish color.

There is no mold anywhere in my garage. I also have had 3 wave runners in this garage prior to this and none of them changed color this way.

I think whatever material they used in the components are changing color.

This product removed the stains from my vinyl. Our detailer recommended Spray Nine, which barely did anything to the mildew stains.

Yes, there's a distinct possibility your vinyl may not have mildew stains, there may be some other cause for the color change such as a chemical reaction.

all those little elbow end caps are, are plastic molded to have the same feel as the vinyl seat cover... my buddy has the same ski and that's all his are..

as stated above ^^ from looking at the first picture.. it looks like a chemical reaction so something... its too blotchy to be mold or sun fade. in fact, your vinyl looks perfect... heck even the stitching looks great

Try and place it in the sun on a hot day and see if the color fades, some plastics change color when not exposed to light for along time but change back after it hits the sun. I would guess the resin they used for these was mixed wrong and is causing the color to change.

I now am very convinced this is not mold. I tried cleaning with soap/ water first + Tried some mold cleaner after. No change. The plastic is changing color for whatever reason. I contacted my selling dealer + another dealer closer to work with pictures. Both were convinced they are mold and advised me to use mold cleaner. I believe the plastic is reacting with something in the air. I find no pink anywhere else in the ski or in my garage.

No one else has complained about this prior in this forum from what I see and that leads me to think it's something in my garage. But I have had 3 skies stored in here prior to this + ATVs. One being a another Sea doo. But they never changed color. Nothing has changed so I'm very confused.

I contacted BRP customer service via e-mail and I was told someone will get in contact with me. Sometimes I think its silly to complain about this but now I have a 9 month old Green, white and black ski with Pink parts mixed in and it looks silly.

269001937 and 269001994 are the part numbers for those two pieces (one left side, one right side) if you plan on buying new ones... there around 3.99 each, if it were my, I would have them bought already and on their way to me.. the cost of the materials to try and fix it would be more expensive then just buying new ones

BRP Contacted me. I took some more detailed pictures for inspection and sent for review. I also took the ski back to the dealer because they requested the seat to be shipped back to them.

BRP customer service also replaced the seat under warranty + the steering trim that was turning color.

I'm very happy with the result. I would however love to know why it changed color on me. If the new seat has the same material then I'm afraid of that changing color as well. Who knows? Will see after another year.

More pictures of the old seat

BRP customer service and I went over the wash I have used to clean the wave runner for the 9 months that I have owned it. It's a Meguiars wash that I have been using for somewhere close to 10 years now on cars, ATVs + the 3 wave runners prior to this one. BRP informed me that this detergent could not be the cause since one of their own Techs at BRP is using the same product on his and have not had this issue.

It has to be that the plastic/ vinyl that was used to produce the specific plastic pieces ether react with something in the air or fading to this pink color.

We also went over where I have ridDen the ski for the 12 hours as I have exclusively ridden it in the Delaware river.

Many of the white GTI seats from 2011 and up have issues. I've seen it a bunch of times. You will see blotchy patches, little pink dots, and other discoloring. SeaDoo knows about it but I don't think they are doing much about it but they will replace it under warranty but many are just out of warranty before they get bad. I think it is the white vinyl that is the problem or how it reacts with the foam.

Mine has it too. Had boats for 20 years and never experienced pink stains on seats. And mine sits uncovered in the garage. Faulty material as far as I can see. Wonder if anyone ever got new seat under warrantee?
