Merc 240EFI running in oil mix ratio

Hi All

I will be firing up my 2nd gen Merc 240EFI soon after complete rebuild. It has the electric oil pump but I am going to bypass it into a bottle initially to verify operation.

What oil mix ratio must I use to run the motor in, and for how long?

Thanks

the manual for 2000 240 efi says:
"Engines with oil injection must be run on a fuel mixture of 50:1 for the first 30 gallons
of fuel. Refer to engine break-in procedure in the Operation and Maintenance
Manual."

but this is assuming you still have the normal oil injection turned on.

later on in the manual it says:

Gasoline/Oil Ratio 50:1 (25:1 Break-In)

anyway, you'd probably want to have some one else verify this. I am just looking at the manual and it doesn't really specifically say "if you are running only on premix..."

Yep... if you are going to unplug your oil pump... and the engine is fresh... then you need 25:1 in the tank. Just be aware... there will be a lot of smoke doing that.

Now... as far as pulling the pump to check it's operation... it is variable, so it's not going to be a perfect test. (collecting the oil, and checking used fuel)

I've personally never heard about one of the electric pumps failing.
