Keeps Snapping Studs

Hi all

On our 95 GTX it looks like the exaust ( its Purple comes from what looks like exaust on left side big Round Peice) We have had it Break the Studs off when driving it twice now it has happened and they were broke off when we got it also so that makes 3 times it has broken studs off. The last time it filled ski up with hot water on inside...got water in engine but with a lot of wd-40 and some Cranking ( 15 seconds at a time no more then let it cool off ) we got it cranked back up and running no prob. My only concern now is what causes these Studs to keep snapping off ?...any ideas would be appreciated...thanks.

I would check all the mounts including the 4 engine mounts. It sounds like it must have a vibration somewhere that might cause it to break the studs. Give it a real good look over.

I checked engine mounts..way i checked was by grabbing engine and pulling very hard both ways...dont see any movement and one mount looks new i will have to get it out to lake and run it a bit with seat off and see if i can see any movement from engine...from visual they look ok but im sure it is hard to look and see if they are broken....are they fairly easy to change ?..i have manual so im sure i can change them was just curious if you guys knew any secrets that would make it easier to change ?...thanks

I just had pretty much the same problem with my 2001 GTI, 3 of the 4 bolts or stud broke. I tore the manifold off and put if level in a vice for a drill press. I drilled the 4 holes to accommodate a larger, stainless steel fine thread 3/8"bolt. The holes on the gasket and the pipe did not have to be adjusted. I did this because I spoke with a waverunner mechanic in southern Ohio who said this is a big problem with a lot of seadoo's and this is the best fix. He called it an engineering defect. Don't be afraid of drilling and tapping, just take your time and you will be fine. Have not used my GTI more then 5 times since the fix, but no problems since.
