Jet Pump Bearings / seals

Hey guys....

OK... From Parker Yamaha... the bearing and seal tool is $130... a the removing tool is $38.

SO...... what's a reasonable price for both??

Still stuck in the dark ages with the lathe.
Nice set up to have CNC machine.

Anything close to/under half would be worth it.
Sometimes making special items end up costing just as much per piece b/c time involed to make it or cost of material.

I know somehow I'd screw it up so I rather send it...

Hey Tony,

How about renting these, it's hard to justify owning a tool that I would maybe use once every few years.

I'm not a machinist by trade... So... if I want to make stuff.. I had to get a CNC. (Let the computer do the work)

That's what I was thinking... so... how about Less than half price !! Half price from Parker Yamaha would be $89. SO... how about $65 for both ??

As far as the low volume prices... it's not a big deal since I own the shop. And once the CNC program is made... I can produce them at will. Yes... a "Set up" in a short production run can be expensive... but on the lathe... it's not to bad.

That's the nice thing about using the tools... you can't mess up. The long tool presses EVERYTHING out (both bearings and the seal) while keeping everything aligned. Thus, avoiding damage to the pump housing.

THEN... the bearing/seal tool is designed to press the bearings into the proper depth. So... just run the press until it stops.

These 2 tools makes it easy for the Home (or pro) mechanic to rebuild the pump.

I think you have a Winner and should be able sell them.
Ill have to look at the HF press next.

I may let a select few borrow them... but a general rental... I'm not into that. People would destroy them... and say they didn't do it. Besides... for $65... by the time I got a few $$$, and they paid for shipping both ways (since they would have to be insured)... the "Renter" would be looking at half the price anyway.

Look at it this way... the price I'm charging for the tools is still less than a shop would charge to rebuild your pump... and the tools make it semi-idiot proof.

AND.... you could always re sell them.

If you have one local to you... the small hydro press goes on sale for $79... and if you use one of the 20% coupons... it will only be $63.20.

A basic shop press is a SUPER useful tool.

FYI... my shop press is an HF 12 ton press from about 1996. So... I'd say I've gotten my $$$ worth from it.

Hi Guys,

This morning, the weather sucked... and I was tired of listening to my 5 year old whine about stuff... so I went into the shop. (Yes, on a Sunday) So... I tweaked the pump tools, and made a few sets. THEN... I rebuilt ocod's pump with them. They work perfect... and make it easy to do the pump bearings and seals. (The tool presses them to the proper depth, like the $130 OEM tool)

I'll be putting them up on my web site for $65 + shipping... but If you guys want them... I'll Let the first batch go for $60 shipped.

Shoot me a PM if you are interested.

Tony,

I'll take a set, sending the funds to your PayPal. You should have the shipping info.

Thanks,

Lou

I know it's redundant; but i sent you a PM asking for your paypal :)

The tool the whole way to the packaging is tops! neat stuff.

Can you post a link to the 'suggested' press? and any instructions would be GREAT.

Are you still selling these? I have a 98 Speedster and need to replace the bearings and seals.

Dr Honda,
Found this thread and was sooooooo pleased to see your posts on this subject and that you have the proper tools available. I just ordered a set on your website. I'm in the middle of rebuilding my 2004 GTI Jet Pump, got one bearing pushed out (its sitting inside the pump) and got stuck on what to do next to get it the rest of the way out with the 2nd bearing and seal. This should make it much easier. While I'm waiting for the tool to arrive, I will be looking for a press.
Thanks!!!

I just ordered this tool too for my 97 Speedster and my 99 SK. Thanks for the innovation and competitive pricing Dr. Honda!

i happened to see a set of those at my buddy's shop over the weekend, he brought them out to show me after I gave him a tell tale, he recognized the logo on the cardboard/wrap. haven't tried it yet myself but it looks to be a nice little setup.. good work and good value.

Hi Dr. Honda. I got your tool set today and they look like they are going to work. I'll be heading down to Harbor Freight tomorrow to get a shop press to press out/in the bearings and seal.

Another question the reason I'm doing the rebuild is because the Bearings had seized to the Impeller Shaft. The Shaft has some pitting (line indentation) where the bearings were. I tried to buff them out, but they are permanent. What would you say is the right thing to do? I'm afraid if I put the new bearings on the pitted shaft, they won't last.

The shop manual gives the minimum specs for impeller shaft diameter. Unfortunately they don't allow for much wear. Iirc it's .24 inch minimum, and a brand new shaft with coating is .25 inch. mine had a groove where the seal rides that cut down to .22. The factory manual says that if you can feel it witha fingernail the shaft must be 'renewed'. when I pulled mine apart, i ended up replacing wear ring, bearings, seals, and impeller before it went back together.

Btw, I used doc Hondas tool set to install the bearings and seals.

Generally... if you can feel the pits, or the bearings seized... the shaft is done.

Anyone interested selling a set of the bearing remover and installer set mentioned above. I agree it is a wonderful price @60.00 but if someone would sell me theirs for 30 ish we'd both make out better because the normal person shouldn't need this set more than once , I HOPE.

I doubt anyone will want to do this. The Dr. has already given a great price especially compared to the OEM bearing removal tool. He could sell these for more than 60 if he wanted, but he's trying to be nice to those on the forum.

Your a little off base?

Take it easy. All I'm asking is if anyone has purchased this set and no longer has a need that I would be interested in purchasing it. I would assume that once one buys this tool they are free to do with it what they wish. I in no way am suggesting that the Dr. isn't going above and beyond to help us in our endeavor's. I apologize if I have offended anyone with my previous question.

Please don't take the above comment personally. But the truth is CR is correct once you use these tools you will appreciate how well they work and also the quality of the tools. And like it or not you will need to use these tools more than once unless you are a very casual user. They will more than pay for themselves the first time you use them.
