Jet Pump Bearings / seals

I'm sending my to DrHonda...
mechanics in Miami have hard time counting hours

GEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ !!!!! $130 !!

I guess I should turn some of the press tools off with my lathe. (I made my own) The bearings aren't that tight.

I'll see what I can do.

SABRTOOTH: You can either send the pump to me... or wait until I make a cheap version of that tool.

I work at an automobile dealership. I just used their press, it's not an expensive one, I think it came from Harbor Freight. Anyway I just found some sockets that fit into the pump. Worked like a champ.

for now I'm having a dealer press the bearings / seals in. (I don't own a press yet either)... but soon!

I wanted to reuse my old seal / bearings, but for the life of me, can't get them OUT of the old pump... can you make that tool too?

I'm guessing this would work for pressing bearings:

no that doesn't look big enough... ugh..

I'm having the same problem atm. No boat shop will touch my jet pumps and the machine shops say to buy the tool & they will do it...but they cant tell me if they will get the job done right.

Hey sqrl,

I'm not sure if 5-1/2" is enough clearance, I used a 1/2" drive socket to press the bearing in, so by the time you add the extra 1" or so there might not be enough room. I used a press similar to the 20 ton press on the right of the page.

yea; that's what i was thinking. I also picked up a whole jet pump assembly (needs wear ring) on ebay for $200 used! that's $500 less than new... but i'm using it as a spare... i want the new parts on the ski, but this will hold me over so I don't have to miss a week... people don't understand why here in PA it's a BIG DEAL to wait a week here and week there for parts... our season is so short I have to run every chance I get!

Since you had the parts... you should have sent it to me. I would have got it back to you quick... and since you are just on the other side of the state... it would have only been one day each direction.

Besides... I'm cheaper than a dealer. (even with shipping)

i may still; i haven't yet been to the dealer...

everywhere had to order the pump... ugh.. it won't be IN to me until like 2 weeks. so long summer.

Hey sqrl,

Why don't you hand deliver the parts to Tony, then you could go ride with those guys. Hell we'll even fix you up on a date with Sis. Sis got her start with the Pittsburgh Steelers, she was the "Steel Curtain".

Just put new bearings and seals on a pump the other day. Didnt need a press or any special tools. Just a old engineer trick. Put the bearings in the freezer for a couple hours. Take one set out slide into places then do the same to other set. Freezing them lets the bearings shrink just enough to slide in,as the bearing warm they expand back to normal.

It's not a hard job... and like I said... the bearings aren't that tight. The only real "Gotcha" in it is that you have to press the bearings in to the right depth. Most of the seadoo pumps don't have a stop to where the bearings go. The pressing tool has a shoulder to set the depth with.

well i will give it a try i guess then, i have my old one to look where to 'stop' and check if they are close I guess. after all this $$ I just don't want to screw it up...

has that worked for you? you've done it? your '97 most likely has the metal pump housing, correct? vs the newer (crappier) plastic?

Just an FYI... I will probably try to make the press tools tomorrow. I want to double check the depth of the housing, before running a batch.

I still don't own a press, but what are you selling them at or for? is it one tool or two? I think sea-doo has it as 2 tools, one for bearings, one for seals.

what about the tool to press out the old bearings?

do you take paypal?

I'm planning 2 tools. One for pressing out... and one for pressing in. The press-in tool will have 2 sides just like the OE tool... and it will handle putting in the seal.

yes i did it and it had he the plastic housing. Like Dr. said you just have to get the bearings to the right deep. So the tool would be handy for that. The hardest part on the job is getting the old bearings out.

This is a new build... no old to worry about unless i want to pull the old ones from my old pump... but for $15x3... is it worth it? or just toss 'em...

I got a used pump, impeller, cone assembly on ebay for $200 that will put a new solas and wear ring in, as a spare... hit a rock / suck up a tree and your 100 miles from home? swap the pump with only 8 bolts and 2 linkages! do it on the trailer in the parking lot! (both my ski's use the exact same pump)...

no point to carry a spare impeller/wear ring with you 100 miles from home since you need special tools / work bench / vice... this i can 'hot swap' in 30 min or less and be back on the water!

You guys looking for somthing like this?????

I need to make a tweak to the seal pusher... but they will be available next week. I used the bearing pusher to drive the bearings out of ocod's pump today.

I'll take the royalty check for the authorized use of the picture :)
Looks like a toilet paper holder

Are you having a group buy form them. :)
Knock them out in a day once you have orders.
Nice to have some skill at a lathe. Only tried it in HS to make a gaff. Didn't go so well so went to fabrication/welding.

I have no skills. Running a manual lathe is a pain. This is all CNC. SO... my skills are in writing code, and designing parts. (CAD/CAM)
