Information Center buttons not working on 02 GTX

Good morning all, hoping you can provide some direction here - I have a 02 carbureted GTX with the 951 engine. Ski runs great, all the gauges work however neither information center buttons (Mode / Set) work. You can press them all day and nothing, sooooooo the clock is incorrect, I am unable to change it nor cycle through the displays on the information gauge. I've checked all of the connections and they seem connected. My next thought was to break out the 6mm sockets and pull the cover off the handle bars to inspect the connections and physical buttons there. Before I did that thought I would just throw it out there to see if anyone else had this problem and had any ideas.

Also, seems to be a common issue with this ski but I did notice water in the hull the last time I ran it. The faster you go, the more water in the hull, the vacuum bilge pumps don't seem to be able to keep up with the amount of water coming in. I did check the hull, and that is good, checked the block, head, cooling lines and from what I could visually inspect they all seem fine. I believe this is cooling water as the water in the hull was warm (and the water temp here in SC is still in the 50's). I did notice there was water on the water box and noticed that the water pressure regulator valve was indeed leaking - I'm not sure if it was leaking enough to have put that much water in the hull. Removed it, teflon taped the threads and reinstalled the valve. We'll see if that got it but any other common places I should check? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

It's leaking from inside. The rubber boot rubs a metal bolt, and gets a hole in it. Remove the water regulator. Take it apart, and you'll find your hole.

Replace the buttons.

Well, think I figured out the problem - the Water Pressure regulator was wasted - more than a hole SabrToothSqrl, it literally fell apart when I opened it. New one picked up and installed. Hopefully that is the source of the water in the bilge! I've ordered a replacement set of buttons - should be here next week, just in time for another springtime run!

Some people try wrapping tape or heat shrink over the sharp edges of the clamp, to protect the rubber boot... but even with it's current 'poor' design, you usually get 10 years out of it... so by the time it breaks again... will the ski even run?

Glad that you found the leak issue.
You may want to clean the balers. Oil, grease,debris can clog up those tiny holes quickly.

Finally had a chance to put it in the water today (sunny and warm here in South Carolina). Ran it at the dock with the seats off and yup, no water leaking from the pressure regulator however did notice a second problem - evidently water is being sucked back into the hull from the starboard vacuum bilge. Checked the exits and sure enough, starboard bilge is cracked at an angle where water would be pushed back into the hull. Didn't see a check valve there, wonder if that's all I need. Are those two plastic tubes at the pump easy to replace? If not I may simply try cutting the "angle" out of the tube. Personally I would love to replace both of them but If it doesn't pull water back into the hull that will suffice for me.

Just a quick update on the ski. All of the water coming into the hull has been corrected. Turns out both - yes - BOTH of the nozzles at the pump needed replaced. For some reason the starboard bilge was taking a lot more water than the port side. Regardless both nozzles have been replaced, information center buttons have been replaced and now everything (for now) is 100%! Thank you so much for the expert advise from the members of the forum!


P.S. Still find it hard to believe that much water could be coming back into the hull from the vacuum bilges but hey, I'm not complaining - it's been fixed and I am one happy camper.

I'm amazed at how much water they can remove from the hull... my buddies GTX was almost sunk. water was OVER the rear e-box... forgot the drain plug.

plugs in, rode it for 20 min and water was down to like 1" deep...

Wow, so now that I can cycle through the displays on the information window (now that the "mode" button is working) the ski evidently has 152.2 hours on it. I'm guesstimating that I put at least 10 of that on myself. I'm guessing that the "hours" is pulled directly from the MPEM and if that is the case I basically bought a very lightly used 2002 GTX in 2016. Suppose I'll just have to increase this today.

No the hours are stored on the gauge and the mpem there's no link between the 2 the only way to know for definite how many hours the ski has done is to have the mpem read, there are a few unscrupulous sellers on eBay who sell low hours clocks at an inflated price for this reason

If you were to hit another gauge with say 50 hours on them, it would show 50 hours but the actual hours on the mpem wouldn't match
