never bought an after market impeller befor how do i know if an impeller is more for hole shot or top speed? and i'm planning on doing some mods such as after marked heads, bigger carbs, intake grate, ride plate and maybe one of them aftermarket ignition systems so my question is for a race application after all of this stuff i'm sure i'll have plenty of hole shot so should i just get a top speed prop? what have you guys tried and like?

For the best acceleration, use a Skat-Trak Swirl. For the best top speed, use a Solas XI or a Skat-Trak Super Slim Line. For a happy medium, use the Solas Concord. If I were you, I would use a Swirl impeller. With all of the mods you plan on doing, you will still gain lots of top speed and the Swirl will give you the best hookup, otherwise you may experience some cavitation on hard acceleration. Besides, there's nothing like arm stretching acceleration.

this is very true i do love it when they get up and go...do you know anything about raceing chester? i'm trying to get into raceing and not really sure who to talk to or where to start. i know they have a race every summer right up the road from my house but i'm never sure of the dates i just happen to drive by and see hundreds of people out there. also would it be a waste of time for me to try to beef up the motor in my xp being they have all these new skis out there with twice as much HP? i guess what i'm asking is do people still race the older skis

do you have the 96 xp 800 x4 hull ski?and are you trying to ask if it can catch up with the newer 4 stroke skis?i think if tuned properly with the right modifications you can leave them behind around the bouys since the h4 hulls are easier to handle..but in straight line you will be up in the starting and maybe they can catch you up.

yeah i have the 96 800 xp i know these ski's have alot of hole shot but ive never been on any of the newer supercharged ones. i don't know much about pwc raceing but i want to get into it i'm trying to read up on rules and regs. to make sure i'll even be able to enter a begginer or novice type class with after market heads and such

well im sure alot of tuners can help you with your ski since there are many aftermarket parts available for that model and it is easy to modify it depends on how much you are willing to spend.as of now is your ski still stock?better to check your compression and have a leak test before you install go fast goodies.

yes..its a good motor to start with.goodluck...and maybe you can update us with what mods you have installed or planning to install.pics would be great also since we have same ski.

I used to race stand up skis. In 1990, I was ranked #4 in Canada. I raced in the World Finals in 1990 and 1991 in expert class. After that, I coached and sponsored racers. Other than that, I go to the World Finals every 2-3 years just to watch and sometimes help out a couple of friends that race.
You can race in beginners class for 3 races with a limited class XP, then you will have to move up to novice class. Go IJSBA.com and download the rule book to find out the mods allowed in limited class. So far, everything mentioned here will be allowed. You can also find your local promoter on the IJSBA website and you can ask then if they have a class for you locally. If you are going to race, the first modification you must do is to replace the stock sponsons with aftermarket ones, like Worx or Beach House. I'd get the Worx ones as the Beach House ones used to break. Get used to the feel of high speed turns with the new sponsons as they make your Sea-Doo turn like it's on rails. Be careful at first. If you crank the handlebars at 60 MPH and you are not hanging on tight, the Doo will turn and you will not.
(How do you think I know this?).:banghead:
I might get a new SXR this year and get back into racing.:hurray:
