As the title reads I need a boat that can pull a load. My wife loves to ski but she is no longer 125 lbs as when I met her now she is three times the lady weighing in at close to 300lbs. Does sea-doo make a boat that will lift her lovely ass up out of the water on a slalom ski?

Just kidding about the wife weighing that much but if she did I would still love her. The truth is I am interested in at least twice the torque I got out of my single engine sportster but I want my new boat to be single engine as well.

I certainly hope your wife doesn't see this thread.

I'm a long time SeaDoo lover, but honestly if you want torque and efficiency, you're much better off with a prop boat, preferably a 4-stroke.

I know I'm going to get a lot of flack over this but just remember, it's only my opinion, and like rectums everybody has one.

To get that out of a single engine sea doo, i would think either the speedster 150 with the 215HP or the challenger 180 with the 255HP would work. Both will feel a lot more torque than the 95 you are use to.

I'm with Lou.

First, I would never own something in a boat that is not a twin engine application. They help with performance, ride, docking and diagnostics. That said, in a jet boat I would do nothing smaller than a 215 and to be honest wouldn't go that small if it were mine.

It is very hard to beat a prop boat for torque and load capabilities.

I'm certain that the larger 4-tec engines I na Seadoo boat would do what you want. My RXT-X has a 255 with a SC. A pair if those in a jet boat would be very impressive.

I bet it would. Since you are in FL, i would be willing to bet there is a memebr somewhere that has one you can test on. Ive been on both boats and both were very impressive for that size. We didnt ski on either, but both pulled tubes no problem. My buddy had 2 of us..total over 500 lbs on a tube and the speedster with the 215HP easily pulled us. I would look for one you can test out.

Would one of these boats pull up a 200 lb person on a slalom ski?

The one huge advantage to a prop boat is, you either have an out drive or a rudder to take the lateral force a good skier can put on a boat. Jet boats do not have to much to prevent sideways drag as compared to prop boats.

Yes, a jet boat can easily pull a skier. And in most cases the forward thrust will overcome the sideways drag a skier when going wake to wake. A slight turn In the wheel helps to overcome this as well.

Just being honest I would say that my 1995 sportster would have pulled 500lbs in one or two tubes and it would have been fun but it would not have pulled a 150 lb person up on a slalom ski and I doubt that it would have pulled them up on two skis.

The difference between your 85HP sportster and a newer 4 stroke with 215Hp is night and day different. Ive been on a 97 with the single 85Hp...its not even close to the torque....find one to try out, you will be amazed at the difference.

starting 2009, they made the 15 footer with the 255HP...Im betting that would have no problems with it.

Does anyone know what the thrust difference would be? My numbers are probably wrong but in 1995 I heard that you could only get 40 hp of thrust even though you had much more horsepower from the engine. I am not claiming that what I share as factual but rather as I remember it.

My RXT-X says it weighed near 800 pounds. I have the 255 with a SC. I can tell you that when you floor it you better be hanging on. Even at 30 MPH, if you floor it and the person behind you is not ready they will no longer be on the ski.

Go with a Mercury powered boat if you want to stay in a Sea Doo...the 7-1/4" pump provides PLENTY of thrust/hole-shot. These boats should have no problem getting a 300 lb. person up on a slalom ski (provided that person can slalom). I also believe that most of these boats are endorsed by the American Water Ski Association, I know the Utopia is.

The reason I suggested the Mercury powered boats is that you stated you want to stay with a single engine boat...and they have a lot of power/thrust.
