I am replacing the worn wavy plastic mats on my 99 GTX RFI. Which is better HydroTurf or Blacktip? The kits are the same price and they look very similar.

If I were to score the two, I'd give blacktip a 6, and the hudro turf about half a dozen.

I have both right now and the hydro turf is dry rot and the blacktip is a denser foam that looks like that CAN'T happen so I say blacktip is better!!!

I feel like it is just preference. There is an artical I read before on the pros and cons of each mat example (thickness). What you have to understand is Hydroturf is a household brand and the bigger name obviously , but blacktip has gt great products.

I own purple diamond cut hydroturf mats ( I can show them to you if you have Instagram, because I haven't figured out how to post loctures here yet. For this upcoming season I had Blacktip send me samples of a few different styles of turf and I decided that I am doing blacktip mats on my other ski.

Here is what I can tell you......

Hydroturf
1. Customer Service - good
2. Shipping - took forever it seemed.
3. Price - Not Great $115 shipped to my door. Here is how they get you. They are a set price if you want the mats than if you want the 3m under te mats ( which I highly Recommend ) it is an extra $14 I believe and than $15 shipping.

Blacktip
1. Customer Service - Awesome they are very responsive in getting back to you are getting you what you need.
2. Shipping- Fast (I ordered a lot of stuff off here samples, covers, handlebar covers, ect) I ordered sample on a Monday which they give you big samples unlike hydroturf and it was here by Thursday and I live in New Jersey.
3. Price - Good, I believe it is $89.95 for whatever style you want and color you want. The best part is they come with the 3m already for no additional charge.

That is just a little insight from my experiences. I do not own Turf on my ski, but I will soon. I do have some big samples which come with 3m underneath Incase you want to unpeel it and stick it on you ski to see how you like it. Hope this review helped you....Cheers

mcarp6 Do you have contact info for blacktip? I've been attempting to locate a phone number. I'd love them to expand their product line into interiors of seadoo boats with the same material the PWC seat covers come in. If you have it could you send it my way.

On the whole blacktip vs hydroturf thing ... I've had both on boats and skis. I think strizzo answered it best!

I have Black Tip, WCS had a sale on black Friday last year, half price, great deal. Quality if pretty much the same.

How does their black Friday sale work? Can I just go to theit website on black Friday or do I need a coupon?
Thanks

Get on their mailing list...they have sales all the time.

Its pretty much the same....hydroturf has a few more styles and colors. I perfer to glue them vs. the self adhesive...but to each their own.

why do you prefer to glue them yourself instead of the peel and stick, is their adhesive not good enough? i plan on replacing the factory slippery rubber wasn't sure myself but was leaning to hydroturf diamond pattern not sure if on a 96xp black diamonds with yellow inbetween or black diamonds with gray inbetween.... def different...

I've always been a HT fan. Just cause that's what I've always used. For the XP resto I went with black HT again with 3m backing.

Sorry it did not even show anyone replied to this thread after me.
The email is John@watercraftsuperstore.com

WatercraftSuperstore has all the Black Tip items. I wait to Black Friday and Xmas you get killer deals. They are soooo easy to deal with.

If I may ask, I understand that I'll need to drill out the plastic rivets on my Seadoo to get the factory mats removed (dumb design in my opinion) do you recommend filling the holes from the rivets with clear silicone or some other method or do you just put the new mats on in its place.

Epoxy would be less likely to ever leak, but I would be surprised if silicone covered by mats would be a problem.

Actually they are metal (Aluminum??) rivets with plastic caps on them.

I used marine epoxy from Lowes even in the smallest tube it would be enough to do a dozen skis but it starts to dry up after 72 hours so the tube is wasted. Next time I'll use whatever silicone I have handy.

silicone is not recommended, nothing adhere's to it.... if you DO you use it,, just use a teeny tiny amount.

back OT.

I've used HT and BT and had good experience with both. Just bought a set of BT black wishbone turf for my GP and it turned out nicely, ordered from SBT and i'm a little peeved at them, the rear gunwhale mat holes didn't match up, working on resolving it with them tho, they are generally pretty good about it, it might work out well in the long run, since if they replace it (even If I have to cut my own holes, i'm ok) then I can use the bad one for ankle guards.

My BT lifted on my XP, just one mat. I made a phone call and 3 pieces later they got me the correct piece, LOL--I kid you not. All no charge.

I bought a few sets of BT on black friday. 2 of the sets peeled up. 1 set peeled up before it even saw water. The other came off the first time on the water. I was very dissapointed with the blacktip. I bought 5 sets and the other ones that I used were on seadoos we sold so I am not sure if they held up. Now hydroturf is a much better product. The material is softer and the adheisive is 3m, bt uses their own adheisive. Hydroturf in also has many more color and groove styles. If you use the 15% off the price is pretty much the same. From here on out hydroturf is the only mats that will go on our personal seadoos

Yes the HT hold until I spill a bunch of pre-mix on it in the hot Fl sun. I guess I won't hold that against them.

Jettrim mats feel great but love to pull up also.
