I just bought a 1997 SeaDoo Challenger 1800 for $1800. I was told that it would not run. Both motors were replaced by a few years ago and he still had issues. Get this he had a dealer replace both motors with rebuilt ones and charged him $5800. After still having problems he gave up and let it sit. I checked the compression and all 4 cylinders and they were very close to 150. When I got it home I drained the gas and filled with new gas and 50/1 oil. Both motors started right up. I couldn't believe it. I put it in the water and ran it for about 20 minutes. It tops out at 57 MPH on the speedometer. I'm guessing more like 50. The interior is a little rough, but good enough for this season. If all goes well I may repair this winter.

I buy and fix a lot of skis, but this is the best boat I have found.

So i wanted to know if i got a good deal on my 2 96 sea doo xps.. so for 3 k the guy gave me both sea doos both work and drive fine just one has a small leak just half to find were its at and also came with a trailer.. i think it was a good deal.

I bought a 2002 seadoo gtx-di for $400 including a trailer. Great condition overall. The only thing was it needed a top end rebuild. I put another $400 in the rebuild in parts. I rebuilt the motor myself. I ran the ski all summer and sold it near the end for $2800. I think $2000 profit and a summer of fun was a great deal!

i just bought a 1994 seadoo xp with 100 hours on the hull and 6 hours on a brand new engine installed by a certified dealer with the trailer for $900. i think i faired pretty good. the hull is in good condition, seat and handle bars are a bit sunfaded. cant wait to enjoy it this summer!

I don't think I ever posted about my boat in this thread (if I did I apologize), but here's what I picked up last May.

It's a 1998 Seadoo Sportster 1800. The boat is in great shape both interior and exterior (original owner always kept covered and garaged). I purchased it with the understanding that it needed one new engine. The owner told me that he went to start it one spring and one of the engines was hydro-locked with oil. He took it to the marina where they removed the engine, disassembled a few parts, and told him he needed a new engine. He took it home and never got around to replacing the engine.

I purchased it, brought it home, and did some research. I read about multiple people that had rotary seal problems that caused the same thing, but several folks advised me that if the compression checked out OK and the leak was small that I was probably OK to run it. So I did a compression check on the good engine and it had around 148 psi in each cylinder. I then checked the "bad" engine and it had 149 psi in one cylinder and 147 psi in the other!

So I thought "let's give it a shot". Well, I got extremely busy and didn't find time to install the engine over the next month, so for the first time in my life I took something to a mechanic :(. He was great, did an awesome job, and had the job done in 2 days. All said and done I have a very nice 1800 Sportster that I had on the water at least a dozen times last year and have had out twice this year, and my total investment including purchase price and all parts/labor is... $2300! The boat starts, runs, and drives great. It also came with the factory bimini top and boat cover (I will be looking to get a new cover this year or next as the original is starting to show it's age).

I bought the boat to fix/flip, but the wife likes it so much that it's a keeper.

Sorry, not sure why pics are so big, normally photobucket automatically resizes them...? I will take some new pics shortly and post them to this thread. This was at a a carwash on the way home, the boat was FILTHY, but my boy loved it!

We bought 2 (it's a long story) 95 speedsters for $3,700 total. One is in excellent shape and runs fantastic, the other won't start on it's own and has been weathered badly. The engines have good compression (when I jumper the starters). I suspect the MPEM is bad. anyway, they are both on CL for sale here in Dallas. We enjoyed the good one all last summer and this spring/summer so far, but I would like to find a deal on a challenger 1800. I thought it was a pretty good deal. 2 boats, 2 trailers, titles for all $3,700. Y'all Be Blessed!!

Every time I think about it I can't help but smile. I bought a 1993 Sea Doo XP and a 1994 Sea Doo SPX AND a 2001 two-place shorelander trailer, with titles for all three for. $800.00 :)

long list here....1) 1989 seadoo sp $100.00 needed a starter starter=$65.00 for a total of $165.00 with no trailer...runs great use every weekend.....2) 1997 seadoo gsx 787 with 70hrs bought for $300.00 bucks owner said it needed an engine because he couldnt get it to start... gladly gave him asking price took it home ....didnt have spark '''' put on a 25 dollar ignition coil been riding it for 2 seasons now.....3) got 2 1997 polaris SLX780's for $100.00 with no trailer and an extra engine...both ski's neede engines assembled (all parts were there but he forgot how to put it together and got tired of trying) put one of them together and took it out yesterday and out of curiosity checked to see how many hours it had and it only has .......21 hrs plus the hour i put on yesterday.... DEAL 3) BEST ONE ....a 1995 seadoo xp with the 717 engine...40hrs...on single place SHORELANDER trailer for $250.00 bucks.....engine needs a crank ...getting the crank from a member on the fporum for $100.00 bucks so will have a total of $350.00 in ski and will sell it for 1200.00 on the trailer

Picked up a 1997 speedster for 1800$ , boats in good shape and runs good , the interior needs a lil tlc , as does the engine compartment , it has ( so I'm told ) under 200 hrs on the motors , checked the compression before buying and it has 165psi on all 4 Cyl . I've always wanted a speedster after test driving them at most dealerships I worked at, so finally got one I could afford . Hope it hold up for a few years of fun .

I just purchased a 1995 Seadoo Speedster for $2200. Runs great! Just needs some new decals...Anyone know where I can get a pirate themed decal set? Thanks, SK

I bought my 98 gsx for $650. Came with a trailer and a jet lift :)
needed a little work but thanks to this forum everything has been easy and cost next to nothing but a little time.
Great shape, runs great! 147psi in both cyl, gas gauge and vts did not work.

My wife and I bought a 96 Speedster. Guy wanted 1500.00. He told me his mechanic said it needed a new Mpem or he actuall told me ECM. I looked at it and Hmm ha'd about it and he said 1100.00. So I took it. I do all my own work and have worked on 2 strokes alot in my racing days. I ended up cutting out the MPEM and wired in two starter switches. Two on of switches and deadman switches. It runs great.

I bypassed the Mpem. If your interested I will tell you how I did it. Cost maybe 100 bucks in stuff and about 10 hours of my time.

I got a 2001 Seadoo Sportster, interior and exterior are mint, but bought it with a blown engine. The ski had brand new wear ring, impeller looks brand new. Put in SBT motor with a 2 year warranty for about 1700. So all and all, have a brand new looking boat with new engine for less than 3900 dollars. Seeing that most of these boats around here go from high 4k beat up pretty bad to 6500. I dont think I did so bad. (granted I can figure out why she is taking on a little water)

So tell us , mpem are hard to come by or just to darn expensive , this will be my repair if mine takes a poop!!!!Boats like these go for about the same here in fl, as drtbiker stated , like to keep cost down if possible , thanks for the info if you post it....

Lately it seems like used ones are going to about $1,500 and a rebuilt/reman is about $600 (makes a lot of sense, doesn't it).

Yes I am interested, but I sold the bad one for $1,300. They buyer said that he replaced a diode in the MPEM and the engines ran great. Thank you for your response. email me at debbieshaun@gmail.com if you want with pics and info if you have it that way we won't "take over this thread". =)
