Hockey anyone??

Since most of us Canadian boater are done for the season, I figured we needed something else to talk about.

Hockey season just started, and it is my winter hobby, I watch every game I can....so I figured it would be a good place to start.

I will start by telling you all the I am an Ottawa Sens fan and I don't think the Wings will win the cup again this season. Anyone else have any thoughts??

DCKD I have season tickets for the Lightning. Looks like we will turn out to be a fairly decent team this year. Although I think we are a few years away still since our defense is so young. How are you guys liking Kuba thus far? Meszaros is looking pretty good.

Ya you guys made some major moves this off season!! you have plenty of offense all you need now is the chemistry, which will come in time, and some exp on D. You def won't be coming in last place this year!!!

Kuba has been great so far. Right now I think he is #2 for ice time, but that is because we don't have a powerplay quarterback and he is taking on the job. I had never really heard of the guy until this season. Why did you guys get rid of him? How did your fans feel about the trade?

Mez is a pretty good player, great offensively but you will often find him out of position...hopefully he will find his place on your team...we couldn't meet his salary demands up here.

I can't afford season tickets up here....they are crazy expensive..we don't have any other sports like basketball or football for them to compete with..decent tickets to one game will run you over 100 per seat, so i only get to about 10 games a season.

Not really. Hockey is a dying sport here in the US. It is still huge in Canada just dead in the US. No one cares anymore. Since the strike a few years ago everyone forgot about it pretty much. Basketball is played at the same time and most people from the US are hooked on that now.

Die hard Devils fan here, hoping to have a decent season. Just isn't the same team since Daneyko and Stevens retired. Looking forward to seeing how many records Brodeur will break this season.

Brodeur is defn the best goalie of his time. I am a die hard hockey fan in general, but the Ottawa Senators are my team. You guys suffered another big loss with Rafalski the other year too.

How are they looking this season? I haven't had much time to get watching games lately. So far I have only been able to keep up with Ottawa, Calgary and Washington.

Once again we get back some players from other teams (Holik, Rolston) and they end up getting injured. They are playing ok for the start of the season. Hopefully will pick it up soon. They need to find a good coach. Honestly i Liked when Lou Lamoriello was coaching, he did a good job. I don't get to many games because i'm in FL now but when they play Tampa I try my best to get there!

Im not going to lie, I am not a big fan of their style of play...but look at how many cups it has got them!! You are lucky to have sucha successful team. I can't say the same about the Ottawa Senators!

Ottawa is usually a playoff contender each year. They have a good team just can't find enough to take it all the way.

Well about 10 games into the season and I see Kuba is tearing it up for you guys. You asked why he was traded, a lot of people around here felt he wasn't physical enough for his size and would dissappear when we needed hix offense. I personally liked nim but Andrej seems like he will be the better player in a few years so I am happy with the trade. How are you liking Picard? I REALLY liked him for his short stay here in Tampa as did we all. DCKD do you play hockey? I've lived in Tampa and have played for about 15 years. Odd I know.

Very true...I just think we are on our way down! If we could lock up a great goaltender I am sure that would give us that extra little push!

Ya he is not physical at all....he's a big guy and I think he has 2 hits this season. He is ripping up the assists though...right now he is at 11 points....just behind the Heatley and Spezza who have 12 (im sure this won't last forever though). So far so good with Picard, he seems like he will develop into a pretty good player. I haven't seen much of him as I have only been able to a few of our games, but from what I have seen he is pretty good.

I used to play hockey religiously when I was younger, then I tore my MCL and now I only play in a mens league and outdoor rinks (I'm sure you don't have any of those) with my buddies when ever I get a chance.

Do you play competitive?

Ive been public skating in florida when i was about 10 years old and most people there couldnt believe there was a 10 year old who could out skate everyone there, I did learn to skate when i was 3 though...LOL first time ive been to a rink that rents skates befor.

haha I did some outdoor skating once when I was in Mexico....it was really weird. You skated on a black rubbery surface...it was a little different than ice and you couldn't stop the same. Anyone else ever done this?

Ya I have never been to a rink that rents skates before. Here in Ottawa we have the canal so there are lots of places the rent skates for that though!

I used to play competitively, played on a juniors team up in Jersey for a while but quit after I messed up my ACL pretty good, now I just play on a beer league down here. A few former Lightning players play there as well. And BTW great game Sat night. Definitely a close one.

hahaha...ACL, MCL both very crappy injuries. But the game was pretty good with a fairly long shootout. I did not realize Smith was so good. I just looked at his stats....he must be leading the NHL right now with a .941 Sv%. He is having a really good start to the season. I'm guessing he took over the starting position from Kolzig!

I had to listen to it on the radio because it wasn't on TV here for some stupid reason :(.

GO LEAFS GO..... Thread wont die, forum is just slow now that all us canadians have put are boats away EH!!!!

hahaha the leafs are doing surprising better than I expected this season!! I think they should trade Kaberle to the Sens for Gerber though :hurray:
