just an aside, but when i fired up the two engines, i hooked up the hose connector to the back, would it be normal to see some antifreeze drip afterwords?

I'm sorry that this has happened, believe me I know your pain been there done that, from now on remember to always be safe than sorry, good job on not over heating the engines.

Please download your service manual and remove impeller and check out you wear rings before going back out again, also maybe you should check the boat yourself without your family to make sure everything is up to par.. Let me find your service manual and manuals..

thanks Cheappc,

do you know if hooking up the garden hose using the hose adapter in the back of the boat, to start the engines out of water, would cause anti-freeze to leak out?

This can only happen if, it was winterized with antifreeze and the antifreeze was still sitting in the intercooler and or the exhaust. And even then, it would be a relatively small amount. Once the hose water flushes it out, there should be no more.

If there is more or it keeps coming, then you have a crack or bad gasket in the engine. Once it is flushed, you should only see whatever the color the hose water is...

Your boar has a closed loop cooling system. Which means that no raw water (the water you are sitting in) touches the engine itself. It does cool the intercooler as well as the exhaust and then dumps out the back of the boat. Your Closed Loop system (antifreeze) goes from the tank, through the engine, through the ride plate, (which is what cools the antifreeze much like a vehicles radiator), then back to the tank.

Thanks CoastieJoe, that makes sense. The weather is nice here now and I don't have the time to take the pump out. going to take it to a local mechanic, not the dealership and see what's up. in the meantime will order a impeller removal tool, any recommendations on which one to order?

Name brand is not important. I paid $12 for mine. Have never used it yet. Cheap insurance. LOL

When you experience the problem is there intense vibration? I have the same boat and have had a lot of issues with just clogging it up with wood and stuff. But usually it vibrates a lot with debris in the pump.

From what I have encountered I would tend to agree with the cavitation of the impeller.

specially if you're saying that its revving high and its not going nowhere. It would also explain the vibration and the overheating.

Hope you get this resolved soon. Its raining all week here in Ottawa, perfect week to send it to a mechanic.

i suppose you dont really but..

With many mechanical items, there are tricks of the trade. One of them is putting the pump in the freezer for 30-60 min to allow the ring to contract. It then pulls out with no cutting or impeller removal needed. For doing it yourself it is great, but I now see the OP is having a mechanic do the work, so I'd probably get the tool rather than 'pay the man' for the extra hour.

thats all true but some times it works some it doesn't, i also like to check and be familiar with the impeller, bearing and grease in the cone.
you just dont know what other owners have done until you check and see how everthing goes together.

thanks guys for all the posts and information, yes it vibrates, revs high, but does not move fast. got a message from the mechanic that it was a piece of wood that damaged the wear ring.

I have ordered the impeller removal tool, and two wear rings. Having them shipped to a border in Washington state and the next time i head out that way i'll pick them up. i am sure this won't be the last time this happens and then i'll be prepared to do the work myself and hopefully a bit more confident with all your feedback.

This is all greatly appreciated!

We've are experiencing higher than normal temps here in the Okanagan, 30+, should be in the mid 20's next week, nice hot at the moment!

Here's the latest update. Picked up the boat, there was a small piece of wood wedged in between the wear ring and the impeller. He gave me the wear ring and i could see the marks on the inside of the ring, oddly, i was expecting the wear ring not to be in one piece as i thought it had to be cut in order for it come out.

I am going to learn from this experience, that cost me $350 Canadian. I have ordered the impeller tool and a couple of replacement wear rings. The mechanic seemed legit, i was referred to him but something has me a bit puzzled. what i had read about in the manuals and online all pointed to removing the jet pump from the back of the boat, and the first step was to remove a cotter pin (and not to reuse it), then take the reverse cable out of the reverse gate and then proceed with removing the jet pump housing. When I took the boat home to park it, i looked at the back of the boat and the same rusted cotter pin was back there. I would like to think there is a good explanation for this, maybe that cable doesn't need to be removed to get the jet pump housing out?

just trying to learn, thanks again! Hopefully will test the boat in the water of the next couple of days.

Good to hear it's all fixed, or should be. If he gave you the old ring and its not cut up, its probably because he used his freezer like I mentioned !

that's right, forgot about the freezer method, but what about removing the reverse cable from the back and the cotter pin?

Replacing wear ring is fairly easy. I'm pretty sure one these sea doo jet boat is he same as the sea doo jet ski just hat u have 2 and jet ski have one
Must have tools for doing it
A counter mount vise grip
Tool to remove impeller
A set of mechanic socket wrench set

That's my first ski I did took me total of about 5 hrs but maybe 2.5 hrs was going out buying the right tools when I did my 2nd ski took me 1.5 hrs and the dealership wanna charge me 450 to do it

Hi Guys,

finally took the boat out after having the wear ring replaced, and it ran great. it was our first full day out on the water and it was a lot of fun, although i didn't like filling up the fuel tank afterwards as we burned through about 60 litres!! i was a bit surprised at that.

i have a question, i guess at some point i must have accidently filled up the ballast but didn't notice until we got home. I tried to flip the switch to empty it at home but nothing is happening. I have the key at the On position, but no water is coming out. Is there anything else i need to do to drain it?

thanks,
