Hawkeye Transducer Locations for C180

Looked at the great write up on the Hawkeye install but I am wondering if anyone can share a good location for a glue-in mounting of the transducer in a Challenger 180.

Just want to install without spending a day on the water searching for a good spot. After all, isn't one of the key benefits of the forum to enjoy the fruits of someone else's hard work? :)

No choice....

You basically have no choice on that. You need to have it in the water to make sure the spot you choose is solid, so the sonar can pass through. If you have an air bubble under it inside the glass, then you'll get a bad reading.

Seems the best spot is on the starboard side just aft of the motor. Forward of the transom about a foot or two. But, there is practically no way of avoiding the water to see if your location passes through the hull. All boat hulls are not the same epoxy. If you glue it down and get no signal, the screen will show a line through it..........

Thanks Snipe! That's about the area I was thinking about.

I was going to do a transom mount but the C180 doesn't have a very good mount location in my opinion. I'll take your advice and spend some time on the lake this weekend to see if we get a good signal.

I've installed like 4 this summer...None of them were in the same place inside the hull of the boats...I actually mounted mine in my own 200 speedster 4 times and couldn't get better than a 85% or better chance of getting the bottom all the time, so I mounted on the exterior of the hull on the transom, next to the speedo sensor between the twin jet drives. The only time I loose sight of the depth is when I'm 6' off of waves...
