Getting Scared.. Just pulled boat out of storage at brother's house.. WATER!!!!!!!

So I stored my boat (2010 Speedster 150) at my brothers house due to renovations being done at mine.. He lives a decent drive and i was told that it was being stored inside his garage.. Well as it turns out he put the boat in his yard and I guess the fool didn't put the cover on correctly and of course didnt have the trickle charge hooked up either.. Well needless to say that when I went to finally pick it up I noticed that the boat was as heavy as could be.. I take the cover off and behold a mini swimming pool.. to top things off he has the nose facing downhill.. We immediately start hoisting the boat up and I see the water just gushing out the back of the boat.. So I immediately take the engine cover off and behold another pool of water.. From what I can see the water level looks like it reached almost midway to 3/4 of the way up the engine.. Does not appear that it made it over the engine or close to the air intake, although it looks like the air intake has some moldish residue on it perhaps from the standing water.. The plugs were open on the back of the boat.. We looked at the oil dipstick and no signs of water inside.. So.. My main question.. What would be the best way to make sure everything is ok.. Obviously I didn't want to start it in case water did get in the engine somewhere.. I was thinking of taking it to the shop and letting them flush all the fluids and refill.. Any other measures that I should take??
 
Nothing to lose that is not already potentially lost.

Pull the spark plugs and give the engine a crank. If water shoots out it is likely junk due to how long water has been in it. If it doesn't crank, also junk as it is seized.

Be sure to follow the air intake hose to where it connects to the engine. It sounds like this portion was submerged and will have allowed water in. Take it off feel around for moisture, use a wet dry vac and suck out any water, follow the above posts and keep us updated. Just went through this myself but with the water sitting for only 12hrs or so. Based on the advice received from forum members I was able to save my engine after 4 oil changes and new plugs. just found mine under water today. will be trying this theory today as i believe its only been under about a week.

Seadoo boats aren't rated to be left in the water, because of the carbon seals on the driveshafts.
 
I've never seen a SeaDoo document that says you can't leave them in the water. With that said, When I do leave min in the water (three weeks is the longest I have done that at the coast), I have an on-board charger plugged in to keep the battery charged. This is mainly for a big rainstorm that would fill the bilge, not a seal failure.

i normally check mine each week, but due to a move and a medical procedure i had to do, i wasnt able to get out there like i had anticipated. then there were storms a plenty with screwed me over too.

ive necer read you cant leave them on the water due to that, but i have been warned that the carbon seal can leak. hence why i checked on a regular basis. the rainstorm screwed me though.

My guess is it was under a week, but thats not fact. it could be shorter, could be longer. gonna try and if it fails, i know im going to have an expensive repair bill at the local dealer.
 
If you look at the thread from when this happened to me you can see the excellent advice and direction from Coastiejoe and xintersecty. Based on their guidance and help from my brother I got my boat working again. Though who knows how long my engine will last now...

yeah. i did a quick turn over to clear the water. Im lucky in the fact that mine is fresh water, so i dont have the salt water scare at the moment. it will be 48 hours tomorrow that i have had it out, so i am hoping im in the clear still and tomorrow/Weds will be sufficient to get all this done.

you think i need the WD40 all over everything in a fresh water situation?

Oh yeah I would fog the heck out of the engine to displace whatever water is left behind, salt or not. Should keep surface rust from making a guest appearance too.

kk, so do all the oil change stuff, and also spray internals/externals with WD40 to avoid rust issues. gotcha. any other tip other then the post about the oil changes??

just watch out lubs like wd40 isnt that good for rubbers etc. there are particular lub sprays for water displacement suitable for plastics and rubber contact.
 
That should be it. As long as the air intake is free of water and you changed the oil you should be ready to crank it up. If it starts you need to get it up to temp 30-40 min the help burn off extra water. Then change the oil again and check the spark plugs to make sure they are rust free.

alrighty, so my friend (mechanic) and I pulled plugs, turned over and some water shot out. we then manually sucked the remaining water out. Turned over (had to jump started relay), nothing came out. We added oil in to pistons to ensure the pistons were lubricated and to avoid rust.

we changed the oil (zero water in oil) and the filter, coolant, etc. everything is checked out and looking good.

The new issue is that when i put on the key, everything checks out. it does the appropriate beeps and everything. Push start, and it just clicks in the back (sounds near the starter relay). does not even try to turn over. When i jump the start relay now, it only does one "chug". I am thinking the battery is low, so i will be trying that, as i have already replaced the starter relay.

any other ideas?
 
arg. so a fully charged battery has been attached (boat batt w/ cranking amps), the DESS recognizes everything fine, beep beep, i push the start button and the starter(new one)clicks multiple times, i jump the starter to get to turn, and it turns over once and it just goes "chug" or a sing "ra" in the turn over. it sounds like it wants to go further, but hits a stopping point.

stupid question, should i have all the plugs out when turning it over?

did maybe the starter crap the bed? im thinking if the starter itself was crap, it wouldnt even try to turn....

its official.....talked to my local insurance broker, and they are getting the information i need to make the claim. glad i paid for insurance! :D
