Confused on water intake location

So I had a bad motor in my 1993 explorer jet boat so I bought a new white 587 to replace it,the old motor also a white 587 has the engine water inlet and exit on top of the crank case of the top end,the new motor I have does not, where would the water intake go to the engine and how does this work? Why does it differ from my previous white 587?IMG_4263.jpegIMG_4262.png

Because that is a 720 in the top picture, not a 587.

Please tell me that isn't an open gas can in the bilge! You are asking for an explosion. Gas vapors are heavier than air and will fill the bilge.

It’s a google picture, I’m offshore right now,I do have a 587 that looks the same as the top picture, water intake and exit in the top of the head, the badge on the stator housing says 580.7, I’m confused as to why they’re different,so the water intake in the 587 in the second picture is not in the engine itself? It’s through the exhaust?

Any help is appreciated,I’m definitely not very experienced and I appreciate your time and knowledge, just trying to understand the difference in my two engines,I’ll have my wife shoot me a picture of my old 587 as the water lines are in the top of the head in the crank case,I promise it says 580.7 on it though!

Easiest way is to look at the service manuals year by year to match your engine under the "Cooling System" section as they show water line routing diagrams.
Early white 587 has the cold water start at the pipe then exit the head. I don't remember 587 having a different setup.
What is the engine in question out of?

The new one I believe is a 93-95 xp or sp,the engine I got rid of is out of a 1993 explorer jet boat. Both are 587s,I’ll post a picture later today of the 587 with the cooling lines in the head.

Ok, look at page 04-01-1 of the 1993 service manual. https://seadoomanuals.net/download/pdf/service/manuals/1993/1993-seadoo-service-shop-manual.pdf

It appears that the 1993 XP used a different head for the 587 that has two outlets at the rear of the outer head shell.
The large fitting on the carb side of the head goes to the exhaust outlet on the hull fitting.
The small fitting on the exhaust side of the head is just a flush port that gets blocked off under normal running.

See if that looks like yours.
