gas odor in garage

We store our 2008 speedster 200 in a garage in a seasonal residence. I left all lockers and engine compartment open to allow for ventilation over the winter. When I opened the garage I noticed a pretty strong gas odor. Definitely coming from the boat. It is lessened when I close the engine hatch. Looked around with a flashlight but didn't see anything out of place, all pretty clean and bone dry. The boat was stored with a full tank and with stabilizer added. Going to have a local dealer check everything out, but would appreciate any ideas / advice from those more mechanically inclined than I am.

I disagree that a "pretty strong" gas odor from inside the garage is normal. I can see a slight smell coming from carb models if you put your nose inside. The system needs a pressure test done to it. It sucks if you are on the boat when it explodes because the starter ignited the fumes!

Open the garage door and air everything out. Look for any gas leakage. Close garage for 24 hrs. If you still smell a strong gas order call a tech. If not start you engine. Also, do you store other gas powered devices used for lawn maintenance.

If boat has a full tank of gas, and weather is warming up there would be some normal expansion which would cause gas fumes / smell to flow from the tank vent?

In my opinion the fuel vent system was a very poor design on these models. On mine if I fill it up all the way it will overflow out of the vent line and all over the trailer. I was able to watch on the hot days after winter the fuel would expand enough to flow out that vent and drip on the ground. I'm guessing you have the same problem.

Solution is to not fill your tank to the tip top.
