Fuel Tank Recall Question

WOW! With some of these resto's you must really trust your dealer. I don't trust many people with my stuff to take care of things better than I do. Even if they swear up and down they will.

They usually go before I start the restos, but they just pull them through the front anyways.

Call your closest dealer give them the HIN and ask them to do a recall check. All recalls that are still active and have not been addressed by previous owners will come up.
I know some of the 96's had recalls on the rear seat fastener but I think it only applied to the GS family.

Me too! I just got a 96XP and need to find out if the tank needs replacement. Is there anyway to tell if has been replaced by looking at it?

I was told that my ski was "old" and questioned why I was fixing it up. I made a remark about having 90% of the fun for 10% of the cost. He was just poking around to see if I would bite on a new ski I think.

I do feel like I am being jerked around by these guys. On the other hand they do have a sign on their service desk that says we are currently "3" week behind on repairs. The "3" is just pasted on top of another likely lower number. I called another dealer about 45miles away and they gave me a similar timeline.

I forgot to update my story.

I was called after 1 week and my tank was replaced. The work they did looked good, they even filled my spare gas can with the gas removed from the old tank. (I want to use it in my lawnmower).

Nothing as conclusive as calling them, IMHO. I have a 96 XP that they have confirmed still needs it, and a '95 XP800 that was already done. On the latter I suspected that it had been done because I removed the storage bin to get a good look at the tank and noticed a sticker with a 1997 date on it. I called anyways just to be sure.

This is so funny, last year I got a 92 Jeep Wrangler I rebuilt, the CAT converter was pretty bad looking. The guys on the Jeep Forum mentioned there was a recall on converters, ends up not only was the CAT replaced for free but the parking brake assembly which I was getting ready to replace, too. Now fast forward, I never thought in a million years that someone would ride around on a Ski with a bad gas tank (sitting on several sticks of dynamite for all intensive purposes) for almost 16 years. I just heard from Bombardier today, the tank is on the recall list as not being done! So off to the dealer this week for a new tank!

That is great. The bad news is it will not include a new baffle, which is where the fuel gauge problem lives. But it seems that they would do it for parts only, if you wanted to pay for a new baffle (that is if I am remembering correctly that you have a fuel gauge problem).

It is something I would never even think about happening, as I'm sure most don't. I never thought about taking the seat off after fueling up, but maybe I should start. I never buy gas at the lake $$$, so I would hope I would have a while to let it air out the fumes from the gas station to the lake, if there was any. But one would never know if you had a faulty fill hose with out checking.
